At the heart of Clancy's extraordinary new novel is John Clark, ex-Navy SEAL, a.k.a. "the dark side of Jack Ryan". And nothing is darker or more demonic that the peril he faces when he confronts a group of terrorists like none the world has ever before encountered.
From the Publisher:
Over the course of nine novels, Tom Clancy's "genius for big, compelling plots" and his "natural narrative gift" (The New York Times Magazine) have mesmerized hundreds of millions of readers and established him as one of the preeminent storytellers of our time. Rainbow Six, however, goes beyond anything he has done before. At its heart is John Clark, the ex-Navy SEAL of Without Remorse and well-known from several of Clancy's novels as "the dark side of Jack Ryan," the man who conducts the secret operational missions Ryan can have no part of. Whether hunting warlords in Japan, druglords in Colombia, or nuclear terrorists in the United States, Clark is efficient and deadly, but even he has ghosts in his past, demons that must be exorcised. And nothing is more demonic than the peril he must face in Rainbow Six: a group of terrorists like none the world has ever encountered before, a band of men and women so extreme that their success could literally mean the end of life on this earth as we know it. It is Tom Clancy's most shocking story ever-and closer to reality than any government would care to admit. As Clancy takes us through the twists and turns of Rainbow Six, he blends the exceptional realism and authenticity that are his hallmarks with intricate plotting, knife-edge suspense, and a remarkable cast of characters. This is Clancy at his best-and there is none better. Read an excerpt of Rainbow Six Play Rainbow Six the game.At the heart of Clancy's extraordinary new novel is John Clark, ex-Navy SEAL, a.k.a. Annotation:
Ex-Navy SEAL John Clark plots undercover maneuvers that few have the experience, knowledge, and survival skills to execute. A champion of U.S. causes overseas, Clark faces his greatest challenge yet when he takes on a group of cold-blooded environmentalists bent on threatening global safety.
Author Bio
Tom Clancy
An insurance executive well into his late 30s, Tom Clancy first hit fame and fortune with the spy thriller "The Hunt for Red October", the sales of which soared when President Ronald Reagan called it a personal favorite. Though Clancy was never a military man himself, due to poor eyesight, he closely studied declassified military documents and used the technical information he gleaned from them to write his best-selling thrillers. Most of Clancy's novels feature ex-marine Jack Ryan, an intelligence analyst working with the CIA. Often the reluctant hero, Ryan battles foes such as international terrorists and powerful drug lords, often finding himself deeply immersed in the high-stakes world of espionage.

Praise

Entertainment Weekly
"Clancy... writes action scenes beautifully, and he weaves them into a sprawling, Bondesque plot that spans the globe from Germany to Australia to Kansas. His descriptions of a transatlantic airplane hijacking, a raid on an amusement park in Spain, and a shoot-out in the U.K. are vivid and cinematic..." 8/14/1998
