"Kendra, if you don't vacuum in here soon, we're going to have to start giving names to the dust balls," my mother says, looking around my bedroom. (from the first line)
Fourteen-year-old Kendra Kaye, her bratty brother Oscar, and Frank Lee, a visitor from a country farm, embark on an odyssey of discovery--about themselves, life, and romance--during a six week scavenger hunt through New York City *Author: Danziger, Paula *Publication Date: 1999/08/01 *Number of Pages: 139 *Binding Type: Paperback *Grade Level: 7-9 *Language: English *Depth: 0.50 *Width: 4.25 *Height: 6.75
From the Publisher:
Kendra doesn't mind her parent's scavenger hunt in New York so much, mostly because her guest, Frank, turns out to be just as interesting as all of the sights.
Annotation:
Fourteen-year-old Kendra Kaye is not looking forward to spending the summer in New York City with her younger brother. Luckily, her parents have also invited a guest for the summer: a boy from Wisconsin who just happens to be Kendra's age. In an effort to entertain and educate, Kendra's parents invent a trivia hunt about New York City. If the trio manages to answer all the questions by the end of the summer, they will be rewarded with a trip to London.
Author Bio
Paula Danziger
Paula Danziger became an author as the result of two car accidents. The first accident was relatively mild, but several days later, while driving to a doctor's appointment, she was hit head-on by a drunk driver. This accident resulted in temporary brain damage that left her unable to read for some time. In an effort to overcome the powerlessness she felt as a patient working to overcome her injuries, Danziger turned to writing a novel about a teenage girl who suffers from low self-esteem and family troubles--THE CAT ATE MY GYMSUIT, which is still one of her most popular works. Danziger was also encouraged to become a writer by her mentor, the poet John Ciardi, for whom she worked as a babysitter while attending Montclair State College. Prior to becoming a full-time writer, Danziger worked for the New Jersey school system both as a substitute and full-time teacher.
