Product Overview

Perpare to bust a gut with two amazing comedies from the great Mel Brooks. This exclusive DVD 2-pack includes the wickedly hilarious spoofs ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS and SPACEBALLS!

ROBIN HOOD - MEN IN TIGHTS: Mel Brooks' hilarious send-up of every Robin Hood film ever made pits dashing Robin (Cary Elwes) against the completely neurotic Prince John (Richard Lewis) and the not-so-evil Sheriff of Rottingham (Roger Rees). Cary Elwes made his childhood acting debut at 5 years old as a servant to the Sheriff of Nottingham in a school production of Robin Hood. In inadvertent preparation for his later role, he deliberately tripped in order to create some humor. Director Brooks also helped create the short-lived 1970s television series When Things Were Rotten, spoofing the same subject.

SPACEBALLS: Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga), whose hairstyle surely ranks as one of the universe's oddest creations, is kidnapped by the evil Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis). But fear not! Lone Star (Bill Pullman) and his half man/half dog sidekick, Barf (John Candy), blast into action in their space Winnebago, struggling against time (and their own limited intelligence) to rescue the princess. Along the way, they'll confront the huge, gooey Pizza The Hutt (voice of Dom De Luise), a sassy robot named Dot Matrix (voice of Joan Rivers), and a wise little creature, Yogurt (Mel Brooks), who teaches them the mystical power of "The Schwartz." The gags fly faster than laserblasts as the fearless (and clueless) space heroes wage interstellar warfare for life, liberty and the pursuit of massive merchandising opportunities. Lampooning everything from Star Wars and Alien to Planet of the Apes, this hysterically funny space oddity will send you into hyperspace with fits of laughter!

Review [Space] I can recall seeing this movie in theatres with my dad, cousin, and uncle. It took a lot of convincing on my behalf to get my dad to let me see it, it being rather vulgar for my young ears at the time. I was young and probably didn't get most of the jokes and innuendos, so its definitely one of those movies that gets better as you get older. The Planet of the Apes spoof was really really funny once i saw Planet of the Apes :) Mel Brooks is just a comic genius to me, that's not to say he can do no wrong cause we all remember Life Stinks. If you haven't seen this wonderfull sci-fi spoof already, please do.

Review [Robin] There's a fairly strong element of Monty Python here. While no one in their right mind would put this film on the same level as The Holy Grail, there are moments of Men in Tights that the British comedy troupe would be proud of...Parodies are hard to do well, as is shown by the mediocrity of so many recent attempts. No matter how ripe a genre is for satirizing, unless you know how to do it, there are no guarantees. Fortunately for Men in Tights, Mel Brooks has been doing this kind of thing for decades. The ads say that "the legend had it coming", and this film certainly dishes out all that the Merry Men can handle - and more.
