Author Info
John Sandford
John Sandford is the pseudonym of Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist John Camp.
After serving in the Korean War, John Sandford began his journalism career working in Missouri and Iowa before moving to Florida in 1970. He worked for "The Miami Herald" for eight years before moving again to Minnesota to work for "The Saint Paul Pioneer Press", where he became a popular columnist. In the mid-'80s, during what was then called the "Farm Crisis," Sandford, under his given name John Camp, wrote a five-part series focusing on the hardships of a Minnesota farming family. His reporting won him a Pulitzer Prize for feature writing. Several years later, Sandford published his first novel, "The Fool's Run", followed almost simultaneously by "Rules of Prey", the first novel in his popular Prey series, featuring policeman Lucas Davenport. Often revolving around a disturbing crime or demented criminal, the majority of Sandford's novels are psychological thrillers with tough characters and fast pacing.
Praise
"Great entertainment."
"It's a complicated case, but Virgil is up to the task, and as always, he's funny, smart and tough when he needs to be--and catnip to the ladies."
From the Publisher
Annotation Virgil Thompson just can't escape. He's vacationing in a remote part of Minnesota--trying to catch a fish or two--when a friend calls with a job for him. There has been a mysterious murder at a resort for women. Negotiating the awkwardness of being the only man for miles, Virgil uncovers another killing from the past that might be related, and meanwhile clues seem to point to danger lurking in the future, as well.
Editors Note Investigating the shooting murder of a kayaker at a women-only Minnesota resort, investigator Virgil Flowers finds more suspects than anticipated including the victim's fellow patrons and a talented local country singer, a case that is further complicated by the discovery of other murders.
