I have Samsungs SyncMaster 170mp. This one appears to be the same one but for the TV. I paid $600 for mine and I love it. If I needed another LCD this would be the one I would snatch up at this price for most uses.
Good quality of picture, much better than my note pc's.
viewing angle may be not as much as it claims(I can see it but quality of color deteriorates sooner), but wide enough.
I wish I can adjust its hight rather than I ajust my view positon.
There simply is not another 17" LCD in any price range that I have found that offers a 600:1 contrast ratio and a 12ms response time.
While I happen to think this unit still ghosts, every single other aspect of it is VASTLY SUPERIOR to any CRT I've ever seen. As the reviewer before me said, a system that can run 1280x1024 is highly recommended. In my opinion, this is the best deal on the net. Zero dead pixels. The thin bezel really makes the LCD appear quite large too. Auto-adjust is pretty much perfect as well and Samsung has included software to set up custom profiles depending on who is logged in to the computer.
I'd also like to comment on Buy.com. Upon my request, they granted me a pricematch and issued me the Ofoto coupon atfer I found out the price had been dropped the day that it shipped (which is also the day that all orders are billed on). Buy.com exceeded my expectations. Thank you!
The monitor, I will tell you, is very high quality. It has a 600:1 contrast ratio, so the colors are all very sharp. Some LCD screens tend to darken everything, so on dark scenes in movies, for example, it's very hard to see. Not so with this monitor. It's incredibly crisp and vibrant.
I finally added a second monitor to my dual-head matrox. The first monitor is very nice 19" CRT. The 710n compares favorably in almost every respect. For the photo editing crowd: details are lost in deep shadows, 6/255 greyscale is indistiguishable from 0/255. On the bright side, 254/255 is distinguishable from 255/255 so highlight detail is preserved well. Very slim design, 2.25 inches deep at the thickest. I agree with all the other postive comments about the 710n. My unit had no dead pixels. I like the fact that there's no clunky power block--it uses a conventional computer power cord.
I bought this because I have been wanting a LCD since they first came out just couldn't afford.so when I saw this I jumped on it. I am glad I did,the picture is great ,the whole appearance of it is awesome and I have my desk back! no ghosting with the 12 ms response time.only thing I wish I would of got the next step up that has digital input as well.still happy ;)
I ordered one of these in Nov 04 and I was so impressed with this unit (despite not having a DVI connection) that I ordered another.
With the thin bezels, these units have ~1" between them and video editing is incredible now. At this price (amazing), you cannot go wrong with one (or two) of these monitors!
Also, these are driven with an ATI 9800 Pro and playing UT2004, Far Cry, HL2, etc. is great. I've had no problems with "ghosting" and although I might detect it if I really looked for it, I'm playing too hard to notice (or care)!
-Excellent Brightness 600:1
-Excellent time response 12ms(typical). Great for gaming!
-Excellent density 300nits
-Low price for its quality.
-No digital connector(but the price!)
-A bit hard adjust to viewing little words. Not may have problems if you use a qualified Video Card (128MB min.)
Like always, insuperable buy.com service. Thanks guys!!
This is a great monitor.. sharp, clear, everything the ad says..This is my first on-line purchase and Buy.com is a 10. My monitor arrived in 3 days, counting the day I ordered it, and they paid the freight.. Now if I get my $50 bucks rebate as promised, it will truly be an incredible deal.. No mistakes here!!!
I received this item on time from Buy.com. Typical Chinese packaging quality, not the most user-friendly software and instructions.
The biggest problem is the image quality. I can visually see waves across the screen.
Returned to Buy.com. Got my money back very quickly.
I compared many different 17" lcd's before deciding on this one; nobody else had the 600:1 ratio on a 17". The picture is outstanding, it takes up minimal desk space and it doesn't require an external power supply like my old Viewsonic. From a price/performance standpoint, you cannot beat this panel.
I thought this monitor looked to be a very good value, but once it arrived I was a little disappointed. The monitor works great for desktops, but when I plugged it in to my laptop, the resolution was horrible at best. The image was blurry unless I set my resolution to something small (800x600 for a laptop?). I checked my drivers for the monitor and the video adaptor, but it still looks very blurred.
Great buy for use with a desktop computer, but pass on this one if you own a laptop.
The Samsung SyncMaster 710N is a 17-inch TFT-LCD offering razor-sharpness and innovative features. An analog monitor with a 0.6" ultra-thin bezel and wall-mount capability, it delivers a 600:1 contrast ratio, 0.264mm pixel pitch, 1280 x 1024 resolution, scanning frequency of 30-81 KHz horizontal and 56-75 vertical, and 160/160 horizontal/vertical viewing angle.
