Customer Reviews of Samsung BD-C5500 - Blu-ray DVD Player
Bought this as first Blu-ray player. I read reviews that it is very slow to load - it is, but I could live with that. Getting the online apps to work is a breeze, as stated elsewhere (Netflix, etc.). However, after 90 days this unit started dying on a regular basis in the middle of a DVD. Also, it frequently comes up with message 'No signal,' 'connection issue', 'reset connection' etc., in the middle of playing a disc or on loading machine. There is nothing wrong with connections, but there is with this device. And warranty only covers parts after the 90 day window, so screwed. Buyer beware!!!
Perfect Thus Far1/2/2011
The set up was easy and the picture is great! We have a Netflix account and setting that up was a breeze. I also downloaded a small app that allows me to see all the media (pictures, videos, etc.) on all the computers that are hooked up to my network. The Pandora app was also a breeze to get going. I've only had the player for a couple of weeks but I'm impressed thus far. Be careful when messing with settings. If you switch it to 1080i/p and your TV isn't made for one or the other, you'll end up with a black screen and you'll have to reset the system. I had to reset it but it was super easy and we were good to go after that. All in all, I'm impressed. It is my first blu-ray player so I have nothing really to compare it to. If I find flaws, I'll update this review.
Good player, DLNA is disappointing10/27/2010
Good player, at least with DVD, didn't try BD. Disappointing DLNA and Internet@TV can be better; only small subset of apps available. Doesn't work reliably with PlayOn. Can't get Mediatomb to work reliably either despite suggestions on web. We have another DLNA client working flawlessly with our DLNA setup so it's not the our setup. Pandora works great!! Vudu can stream HDX without any issue.
Works great, getting software upgrades consistently and easy to use. I watch Netflix and Youtube constantly and the quality is very good or HD and I don't have the fastest internet. Bluray and DVD's play great and now that I see the price is $40 cheaper I may buy another one.
Great price on this item, and the internet connectivity works great. However, not only slow load times (which I could live with), but fails to load DVDs about 50% of the time - requiring opening/closing the tray to try to get it to reload. Caveat - I did buy refurbished. Also, processing time for payment took a week pre-shipment.
Gets the job done....neat online apps8/31/2010
My first Blu-Ray player. Pros: Good price, neat online Samsung Apps, Nice integration with my Samsung TV, Plays my homemade AVCHD disk after some work Cons: Loud mechanism when moving track to track, Firmware update removed a feature and Samsung Support could not help.* Overall: I will keep this unit. I do not expect to us it much so this is a good value. *The shipping firmware played my home movies recorded on AVCHD disks, but the firmware update broke it. Called Samsung and the phone guy barely knew what AVCHD was. I finally figured out the new firmware only supports single layer DVD media for AVCHD disks and no longer supports the dual-layer. This limits me to 30-45 minutes of video, but I can live with that. The player just said disk does not meet specifications.
