|Samsung introduces an ultra small laser printer with greater convenience, the ML-1665.
With its ultra compact elegant design, there’s space for this little beauty anywhere. Clever
built-in features like one-touch printing make the ML-1665 smart, as well as easy to look at.
The ML-1665’s low noise level, rapid print speed, and power-save button assure maximum
convenience. With the Samsung ML-1665 printer, sometimes the best things in life do come
in the small packages.
More Working, Less Waiting
The ML-1665 prints out professional-level documents up to 1,200 x 600 dpi at speeds up to 17 ppm. A 5,000-page monthly duty cycle means it can handle the workload and its first page out time is less than 8.5 seconds. The ML-1665: More working, less waiting.
ESP Easy Screen Print Button
See it, Print it. The unique Easy Screen Print button (ESP) allows you to print exactly what you see on the screen with just one touch of a button. All you do is press the Print Screen button on the printer control panel. The Print Screen facility can be used in two ways: Pressing the Print Screen button for less than two seconds prints out the contents of your screen as you see it or pressing the Print Screen button for longer than two seconds just prints the active window.
Ultra Compact Design
The ML-1665 has an ultra-small footprint, yet still manages to pack in a wealth of convenient features. Measuring just 13.4" W x 8.8" D x 7.2" H, the ML-1665 sits comfortably and stylishly on a corner of your desk. Also the glossy top cover looks chic and polished while offering dust-free protection.
Samsung’s AnyWeb Print software is another useful feature. It allows you to select, drag and drop content from different webpages into a new blank page, without any resizing or other editing. AnyWeb Print is a quick and easy way of pulling information together, and you can save the pages you create either as tiff files or pdfs. They can be printed using the Print Screen button or your normal print menu. So you can quickly and easily print what you see. AnyWeb Print software enables you to gather data together, and handle information more effectively.
Quiet and Comfortable
Samsung's ML-1665 is engineered to be whisper quiet, generating a operating level of just 49 dBA while it’s printing. That’s less than the gentle hum of a running refrigerator! The ML-1665 is a pleasantly quiet co-worker.
From manufacturing to shipping to the way products operate, Samsung is continually committed to creating more efficient, more environmentally conscious technologies such as the ML-1665's easy-to-reach power button right on the front panel. You can switch to an energy-saving standby mode at the push of a button. Ready to print? Just push the button again to power back up, and you’re ready to go.
ENERGY STAR Compliant
By being ENERGY STAR compliant you are assured that your Samsung product is helping the environment by using less energy while saving you money. ENERGY STAR is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy promoting energy efficiency.
Quit quickly, horrible customer service12/23/2011
This printer stopped working after printing maybe 50 sheets. It kept giving me a " load paper in tray" error, when there was plenty of paper. I called Samsung, and they told me that I neede to replace the printing cartridge that was brand new.
Better Than Ink-jets In Dry & Dusty Environments3/27/2011
My 'Overall Satisfaction' would be a 10 if possible. Love that it's black. Love how small it is (takes up less space than even the smallest of CRT monitors)- about the size of a 2-loaf breadbox. Very quiet. Energy efficient. Most important for me, though, is the fact that it has performed well over the winter while I make use of a wood-burner in the adjoining room every night which makes for a very dry and dusty environment as far as printers are concerned (I combat it with large, green plants!) I don't print often, but I was lucky to get 10-15 prints (and often, much less) out of any ink-jet cartridge before they would dry out. Since I bought this thing just before Christmas last year, I've gotten at least 20+ prints and it shows no sign of drying out. Every so often it will grab multiple pieces of paper, but what printer doesn't? Especially when you're using aged paper. Bottom line: if you want a small, reliable laser printer -this is it.
Such a fantastic little printer! It works very well, takes up very little room and has a fantastic price. It works very well with both my Mac OS X and Ubuntu Linux machines. I have it connected to my Ubuntu macine and use it as a print server.
Good small printer2/23/2011
I bought this printer to use with my laptop when it was on sale for a low price. So far, it has performed well and as expected. I like the fact that it is small and easy to move around. The print quality is good.
Samsung ML-1665 Monochrome Laser Printer2/3/2011
Easiest Laser printer I have ever used. Pefect size for small spaces, yet can do the same job large printers do. I'm very happy with this printer.
Compact personal printer1/21/2011
Very compact little printer that seems to work well and operate relatively quietly. Output is good and printing speed is very good.
Great Product Great Price1/15/2011
Easy setup. Works with Windows 7 as well as Vista. I have a Samsung 1710 that is 6 0r 7 years old and it is still going strong. If this one last half as long I will be happy. I would recommend this printer to my friends.
Little Black Laser Printer:)1/9/2011
I bought this Samsung printer as a gift for my son who was setting up a new home business office. I have been using my Samsung Laser Printer for a couple of years and have not had one single issue with it and I have faith in the Samsung product line. The printer was small and stylish, black, and very easy to set up. Just remember it does not come with a printer cable. I should have ordered the cable from Buy.com and I would have saved $10. This was a great purchase!
Printer works well1/5/2011
Installed the printer and all worked as stated;it would be nice to include the usb cord. Makes me wonder if Samsung is turning into a fly by night outfit!
Samsung ML-1665 Laser Printer1/3/2011
Very nice printer for the $, but replacement cartridges are $$$$$$$. No Cable in box, easy to install, have it connected to a MediaSmart Server and can access it from Mac's and PC's on the same network. Like the compact size, ease of setup and the $40 buy.com pricing.
This printer is great. Nice and compact. Replacement cartidge is very affordable compared to other laser printers. I would recommend this printer to anyone.
Samsung ML-1665 Monochrome Laser Printer1/3/2011
I rarely write any reviews for the purchases I made from internet. But I think this one is a great buy and I'm so proud of myself. First, I only paid $40. Second, this printer is very small but very quiet! I like it a lot! Very good buy.
Can't find anything wrong with this product except the light plastic which makes it a bit cheap looking. But for the money, this can't be beat. Works great!!
Well worth the money1/3/2011
This printer was easy to set up and the print quality was outstanding. Well worth the money.
I was excited about this printer when I ordered it because of its compact size and price. But it exceeded my expectations in every way. It was even smaller than I expected but what really blew me away was its performance. Once it is turned on, it immediately goes into sleep state. But within a couple of seconds of sending a print job, it comes to life and the page comes out. This is truly phenomemal performance... the fastest I have ever seen in a printer of any type. And the page I printed was complex... a combination of multi-font text and graphics. Most lasers take up to 15 seconds for the first page to print but with this one, it is virtually instantaneous. Actually, the first page I printed came out so fast, I assumed it must have been a malfunction and a blank page but the page was perfect. All things considered, this represents the best value I have ever seen in a printer. Its size allows it to be used most anywhere but its performance is far superior to any printer I have ever owned and I have owned quite a few. I just wish I had bought several of them seeing as I paid less for it than the cost of a new toner cartridge for my old printer.
Nothing fancy here. Just a solid b&w laser printer. It was easy to install, easy to use and it closes up to the size of a large shoe box. Great value.
First home laser printer1/3/2011
This was a great value for what I paid. I'm really happy to finally have a laser printer after too many years of dealing with dried up ink cartridges when I want to print. This little printer was easy to set up and prints well. It's so fast compared to what I'm used to. I recommend it.
Samsung Spare Printer1/3/2011
I already have a Samsung printer I am using for the past 2 years (similar size). This is a spare printer since the old one is starting to make some sound. I am looking forward to using this one soon.
So far so good. Easy setup on Mac. Works great. No wi-fi. 47 dollar cartridge for replacement.
What a great printer for the price !12/20/2010
I have only used this printer a few times but it was quiet and printed very fast....much faster than my ink jet printer. I am very happy with my purchase. It worked well with both Windows Vista and Windows 7. When I need to refill the cartridge, I will try refilling the toner since I read this is possible in another review. All in all I am happy that I ordered the Samsung Laser Printer and I hope we have many happy years together.
Per-page cost is high12/20/2010
The main problem I see with this printer is the rather high cost-per-page of printing, assuming the cost quotes in prior posts are correct, which work out to about 6-7 cents/pg, vs. ~2 cents/pg for a standard-sized and priced laser printer. If you don't need to print very much, not a problem; but if you do, then you will very quickly eat up any savings you realized by buying this nice little printer. Interesting that the laser business model has been going the way of that of the inkjet printers--almost giving away the printer, then charging VERY high prices for cartridges. It's the venerable "cheap razor expensive blades" trick. Seems to still work.
So far, so good12/20/2010
I am partial to b&w lasers because the per page costs are much lower than inkjets and the kids are writing papers all the time which don't need color. I keep an inkjet around for when we do need color. The samsung was a breeze to set up and is running well. My only concern is how it will hold up in the long run. The last two inexpensive lasers I bought (a konica minolta and an okidata) failed after about a year before the first cartridge was used up. Given the price, however, I'm not losing any sleep over it. It would just be nice to have something that lasts a few years. Maybe the samsung will be the one! So far, so good...
Super Fast, super quiet. Works perfectly so far. It is connected to an XP machine and is shared to other computers with Windows 7. No problems like I have had with other shared printers.
Great little B&W printer.12/15/2010
I love this little B&W laser printer and the price when it's on sale is unreal. My kids use it for all their written projects they do for school. I got this same one 3 years ago and it's still on the original ink cartridge - about 2000 pages!
Great printer for the price12/15/2010
As most others have written, this is a great printer. Easy set up, small, quiet, great quality. I'm a little old school and still prefer a monochrome black laser printer. I bought it last week at the HUGE online store, and paid $39. I really like it. My only minor feedback, due to it's small nature, it doesn't feel as sturdy as other laser printers I've had. I'm not crazy about the way the paper loads and feeds, but those are all preferences not negatives. I'd heard that toner was hard to come by. buy.com has the MLT-D104X for $45-ish which yields approx 700 pages. buy.com also has the MLT-D104S for $59-ish and that yields 1500 pages. Both toner cartridges have free shipping right now. This is the best price I've seen on either at 25% off what I looked at last week. Overall- A
Good deal laser printer12/14/2010
Easy to setup. Out the box and ready to print in a few minutes. Works great. Only thing is it does not come with a USB cable. Just bought a second one!
Sexy little printer for work12/14/2010
First, the rumors are true... the printer costs less than the toner cartridges. I knew that going in. No USB cable in the box but those are easy to get. But besides that... This is a really compact laser printer. I have to tote my printer and laptop from site to site so size, weight, and durability are important. This printer fits the bill plus some. A plus that it's black housing looks sexy and sassy next to my black IBM Thinkpad, guess I should say uniformly professional. My boss is going to be jealous since her older Samsung is bulky and taupe. And installation was the easiest I have ever done before. We might be buying a lot more of these.
Easy to install12/14/2010
bought as a gift, installed very easily on a refurbed Xp system.Print ok, Speed ok. Nothing special, but what do you expect from this price point. good value. replacement toner cartridges available from Newegg.
Love this printer!12/13/2010
Printer works perfect, the price was very good and delivery was fast. True, it did not come with a USB cable but most printers do not anymore. Had several of them laying around which I got from a local dollar store for just a buck. Will recommend this printer and buy.com to anyone!
All the print that's fit ...12/13/2010
Printer was a breeze to set up despite the crudity of the instructions and prints like a dream. Does not come with a printer cable — that's another way printer companies get you — but I had a spare printer cable so that was not a problem. Imagine my surprise, however, to discover that it will be cheaper to buy another printer than than it will to replace the toner cartridge when the time comes ... something purchasers should probably be aware of.
Good value for basic use12/13/2010
Just needed a laser printer for light office use. It fits the bill and should be much cheaper on a per page basis than an inkjet. Forgot that it doesn't include USB cable so that was a minor annoyance. On Windows 7 32 bit.
Laser for $5010/2/2010
Works great, monochrome (black\White) printer works great so far. Very easy install.
Works great with my Windows7 32 bit9/8/2010
Working great still after a week. The easiest printer I've ever installed. Just install the the cd and done in a couple clicks. No hangups with the paper yet.
Spiffy little printer9/8/2010
This Samsung ML-1665 is quite good. I am a graphic artist. The text prints as if higher resolution - sharp! Solid black is really solid (some printers with lower rez will print blacks as dark grays, sometimes with streaks). This machine is not great for printing photos, but not too bad. (for good photo printing on a laser, choose a true 1200 X 1200 dpi machine (this one is 1200 X 600). This thing is SMALL, almost tiny! Also a plus, the laser cartridge can be refilled at your local cartridge store. Have not had paper load problems as mentioned elsewhere. As for USB cables, printers rarely come with USB cables. Bought for $49 at BUY.com.
Great Value for a Laser Printer9/8/2010
I was just looking for a basic Laser printer and bought this at $49.99 and it was a great deal. Gave the value 4 stars as the cartridge costs as much as the printer. It prints fast but has no extras like wireless or network connection but i share it on my network and that works great. Easy to set up and win7 64 bit picked it up right away.
For the price, you can't beat it!8/26/2010
I just got this printer from Buy.com and I ended up paying $49.99 with free shipping! Windows 7 (64bit) edition automatically installs the drivers once the USB is plugged in...I would suggest cancelling this process and downloading the latest win 7 drivers from Samsung's website. The drivers that came with the printer said version 1 while version 3 is available on the website. Somehow, the driver has to be installed twice for it to work. Samsung tech support has idiots and have no idea what to advice customers. They suggested that I send it back or get it serviced as the they thought the printer was bad. Knuckleheads! The driver just needed to be reinstalled, that's all...I wish Samsung hires people that have intelligence and not pigeon brains that read from a book and tell the customer what to do without understand the issue in the first place. But overall, a great printer! XP installation was straightforward with no issues. Win 7, just reinstall the drivers twice, infact after installation a pop-up box will come up and it will say something like "optimize for win 7" Can't remember exactly...but say "yes" to this option and it will install it again. It will work the second time. Dont make windows install the drivers by itself. Final Thoughts: Good value laser printer for the money. Samsung makes really good products at an affordable price!
No USB Cable Included8/25/2010
The printer does not come with the USB cable. So if you don't have a USB 2.0 A Male To B Male cable lying around, do purchase that while you put in an order for this printer. The product page must mention that cable is not incuded, like they mention "batteries not included" on other products. I am giving this product a low rating because could not use it out of the box.
No USB Cable Included8/25/2010
The USB cable does not come included with the package. This machine requires a USB 2.0 A Male To B Male Cable, and if you don't have one lying around (like I didn't), you will have to buy one, and pay for the shipping etc. I talked to the Buy.com customer service and they gave me this link: http://www.buy.com/prod/new-15ft-usb-2-0-a-male-to-b-male-cable-for-printer-scanner/q/loc/101/215969531.html Include this cost in your calculations before you place the order. Now I have to either place an order for this accessory, or return the package. And I am leaning towards the latter. I can't comment on the performance or value, so disregard those. And I am giving low ratings for Ease of use and satisfaction because they should have mentioned "USB not included" like they mention "Batteries not included".
You get what you pay for... and then you pay more8/21/2010
This is a cheap printer *hint* *hint* The print quality is fine, it's quiet and it's nice that it has a toner-saver option, but there are two things holding this product back. First, I've had issues with the paper loading mechanism. For some reason if there is too much paper in the tray it just wont grab it and then the printer thinks it has a jam. This doesn't sound like a big deal but it becomes annoying when you're trying to print off multiple double-sided documents and need to constantly re-feed the paper. Second issue -- the toner. It's hard to find and it's not cheap. To buy a ~1500 yield cartridge you're looking at 50-75 if you can locate a retailer. I'm not sure why Samsung doesn't sell it directly or why there aren't remanufactured cartridges available, but if you do the math this printer is going to cost you more in the end. I've ended up ordering another laser printer instead that has better ratings and cheaper/higher yield cartridges because I've realized that this Samsung will only cost more money the longer I use it.
I've only had the printer for two weeks but here are my initial impressions. PROS: TINY! Especially with the trays closed. Fast - very short warm up time and speedy output. Simple - I plugged in the power and the USB connection, and Windows XP automatically found a driver, no need to install the included bloatware. User friendly - the toner cartridge is incredibly simple to remove and replace, and there are only 2 buttons, one for power and one multi-function button. Double sided printing - works great, the printer prints all the odd numbered pages, then you just grab the stack, put it back in the tray upside-down, hit the button, and it'll print the even numbered pages for you. Quality - prints look fine, especially text. I set the printer options for minimum quality (no edge enhancement or other effects) to save toner, and it appears to be doing the job. Inexpensive - unbeatable price for a laser of this quality. CONS: Glossy black finish looks really nice but is a dust/fingerprint magnet, just like everything else on my computer desk. I dust often so it's not a big deal. Also, I've read that there are not any generic toner cartridges or refill kits available yet, but I expect that will change in the coming months, long before I need a new cartridge.
Great Little Laser Printer8/15/2010
I saw this come across as a "Deal of the Day" and jumped on it. I've always wanted a laser printer. Once I got it and set it up, I found that it met/exceeded much of my expectations. Who get's a laser printer for this price? It works well, once it gets printing it prints pretty quickly (or as to be expected). The print quality is great as well. Prints in monochrome and gives a lot of shading. The paper tray doesn't hold a lot of paper but it isn't bad, I fit at least 175 sheets in the tray. I have yet to use the print screen feature. I've printed scrap book pages in this as well as vellum paper and regular paper. It was able to handle all types with ease. I also like it's small size. The only thing I don't like is that it's not wireless, but you can't expect a whole lot for a laser printer that sells for until $100! So I will live with it being wired. :0)
