|The Sansa View is SanDisk’s flagship flash MP3 player with the ability to playback video on its 240x320 64k color screen. Very Nice Player11/16/2007
This is a great player. However, getting started was a real pain. My Windows XP (SP2) machine would not recognize it, and there is no installation software. Finally, I went to the SANSA forums and downloaded the latest Media Converter and bingo! it worked. Unlike the e200 series it only has one USB mode, but does allow drag and drop (in Explorer only). Also, unlike the e200 this one is not Linux compatible. There is lots of space to put music and video's and thanks to the larger screen video playback is quite good. The firmware is acceptable but not the greatest. There are a few very minor annoyances that I am sure will be improved with a firmware update. For me the most annoying is this, with a larger music collection (that 16gb allows) when scrolling thru artist or album lists when you reach the end, it does not automatically re-scroll to the top. The other annoyance is the fact that the battery is not replaceable as with the e200 series. When your battery goes, your Sansa View becomes a brick. The only other complaint I have that is worth mentioning is the lack of accessories. When plopping down two 'C notes' for a player you want a case to protect it with. Well, there was no case included in the box an none I could find on the net, and despite its sleek design this is a fingerprint and scratch magnet. Having said all of that the battery life is good, the sound is great, it looks good and, oh yes, this one accepts SDHC cards so you can expand memory to 6gb (now) and 8+GB when those cards become available. This is a great effort by Sandisk and if you are looking for 'anything but ipod' with lots of space, this is probably for you.
