In 2005, celebrated novelist Goldman married a beautiful young writer named Aura Estrada in a romantic Mexican hacienda. The month before their second anniversary, Aura broke her neck while body surfing. Francisco, blamed for Aura''s death by her family and blaming himself, wanted to die, too. Instead, he wrote "Say Her Name," a novel chronicling his great love and unspeakable loss.
Francisco Goldman's novelistic memoir SAY HER NAME grapples with grief and guilt in the aftermath of his bride's death in an accident at a Mexican beach. Passing back and forth in time between Aura's life and Francisco's mourning, the book attempts to measure the human loss in a way beyond either memorial portraiture or documentary tragedy. Goldman's story aims to be a resurrection of his lover, to answer his bereavement by creating an invincible companion possessing Aura's memories, who can survive in literature as she did not in real life.

"SAY HER NAME brings something new to the rime of the grieving survivor: fresh supplies of imagination, ruthlessness and over-the-edge crazy love." - Marion Winik 04/03/2011

"[P]assionate and moving...." - Robin Romm 04/10/2011

"Out of crushing loss and despair, Goldman has forged a radiant and transcendent masterpiece." (starred review) - Donna Seaman 03/01/2011
