Laughs and scares aplenty are unleashed in these two popular live-action/computer-animation romps featuring Fred (Freddie Prinze Jr.), Daphne (Sarah Michelle Gellar), Shaggy (Matthew Lillard), Velma (Linda Cardellini) and that canine you-know-doo. The Mystery Inc. gang reunites in Scooby-Doo [Side A] to find out what's behind the jinky-jittery goings-on at Spooky Island, the Spring Break hot spot run by Emile Mondavarious (Rowan Atkinson). Scooby-Doo 2 Monsters Unleashed [Side B] finds our heroes with their hands and paws full trying to find out why Coolsville is overrun with monsters the pals thought they'd defeated years earlier...but now the beastly beings are b-a-a-ack. Doo the fright thing, Scooby-Doo fans, and enjoy!Format: DVD MOVIE

DVD Verdict 8 of 10
"[1] There is one truly magical scene in Scooby-Doo, a moment where everything the movie could have been, even with human stain Prinze Jr. and our buff slayer, unfolds on the silver screen. The Mystery Machine is traveling down a beautiful lonesome road as a near perfect sunset chases it across the horizon. The beautiful opening bars of Brian Wilson's tender lullaby ""God Only Knows"" lilts across the soundtrack like steps back into time and innocence. We cut to the interior of the pop art caravan and see the cast, looking Saturday Morning Cartoon perfect in the expressions and costumes, capturing the very essence of what made the television show so unique, and fondly remember." - Bill Gibron

Chicago Tribune 7 of 10
"[2] Digging deep into the series' nostalgia pockets, screenwriter James Gunn resurrects some of the cartoon's most famous characters when the costumes of Mystery Inc.'s villains (Capt. Cutler's Ghost, Pterodactyl Ghost, etc.) mysteriously spring to demonic life during a museum exhibition...In the first ""Scooby-Doo"" movie, Gosnell had fun toying with the mythology of the gang, hinting that Shaggy and Scooby were really potheads, that Velma might be a lesbian, and that love between Daphne and Fred might not be so rosy. Absent this playfulness, the sequel's all-surface, no-substance approach makes you yearn for the original cartoon." - Robert K. Elder
