|Seagate Backup Plus, easy backup for your digital life on your computer and the cloud|
The Seagate® Backup Plus desktop drive simplifies backup for consumers who want to protect their entire digital life locally, in the cloud or from social networks. Via the Seagate Dashboard, use the Protect function to set up a one-click plan or customize your scheduled local backup. Keep multiple copies of your files in case disaster strikes.
With the Save feature, user-generated content can be backed up from your favorite social networks. Many people now use their smartphones to capture priceless moments. While these devices are handy and readily available, storage is not their strong suit. Capture a memory, post it on a social networking site and let the Seagate Dashboard automatically back up any content posted. Even if the file gets accidentally deleted from the device, another copy can be waiting.
Clydesdale of HDs w/ Speed of a Race Horse...3/18/2014
These Seagate external HDs are incredible; with 4TB of space, they provide enough room for a large, full-length, HD quality, digital video project with room to spare. And the fact that Seagate made them compatible with all of their drive adapters, they can easily be swapped between the USB 2.0, SS USB 3.0, eSATA, or even the blazing fast Seagate thunderbolt drive adapter depending on what your computer's top speed connectivity is. And at the price for the size you get in quick swappable HD, it's a no brainer. Way to go Seagate!
Finally a Seagate Drive that properly works with M2/6/2014
I don't know your experience with Seagate products and Macs, but unfortunately I have bought several drives that always claimed to work and they wouldn't. (And it was not because of the NTFS formatting system... all my external drives are formatted the same and other brands work fine) This external hard disk has new drivers installed directly in the drive so it works like a charm, like advertised, like Seagate disks should always have worked. I hope they got it right this time!
Worth the few extra $$s2/6/2014
I couldn't believe I had almost filled a 2TB drive, so I decided to upgrade my external drive to 4TB. This Seagate drive is just what the doctor ordered! EASY set-up right out of the box, silent operation, small footprint - everything I wanted/needed. With USB3 as the "slowest" connection - this drive is a great external backup ... and 4TB should last quite a while! I am very happy to recommend this drive.
I am surprised at how well this drive performs for a one that is not a 7200rpm drive. The drive inside is reported to be a 5900rpm hard drive and with the USB3.0 it is an excellent drive to quickly backup and transfer large files. I had initially considered the faster Seagate Expansion 4TB but after reading reviews about a significantly higher failure rate with those drives than the Backup Plus, I opted for the slightly slower drive. Maybe the 7200 drive in a confined case is he issue? Could it be that it produces more heat which in turn gets trapped in the case? But anyway, the Backup Plus in my opinion is the more secure option and the drive speed is sufficiently fast. I particularly the automatic standby feature that sleeps the drive when you are not accessing it.
Have used Seagate product for years. This is the second Backup Plus 4T drive I bought. Great performance and reliable.
It is good enough but ...12/19/2013
1) It should have a power button. I do not use it very often and I only need it when I backup some hung data but every time I need to plug and unplug power. 2) My machine only has USB 2.0 and eSATA. It does not have eSATA. When I backup huge data the USB 2.0 is not fast enough. Over of all, it is good enough.
Great Drive for Backup Storage12/15/2013
This is my second Seagate 4TB drive - love the 100+Mb 3.0 USB transfer between drives.
owns a few of these.
Up and running in 1 minute11/9/2013
I just took it out of the box, connected to my PC, connected to an outlet, and I instantly got an extra 4TB of space. I have had it on 24/7 for the last 3 weeks, and so far not a hitch. However, the transfer speed was not that great, but that's because I don't have USB3 on my PC. I'm looking to add a USB3 PCI Express card to remedy that problem.
I have been soured on Seagate8/29/2013
Beware of this drive. Drive failed after first week of use. Drive would not spin up although base was powered. Needless to say the eleven laptops that were backup'ed on it will be redone. Company agreed to replace drive after several phone bumps but at a cost. Learned a lesson on this one.
Easy setup. Reformatted it for the MAC. Effortless connection to TimeMachine.
Nice and big harddrive7/17/2013
Easy to install and use! Huge capacity!
It works and it's not failing and it works. It satisfies my fix for more HD space.
4TB HDD for $180 - heck yeah!5/24/2013
First 4TB I've purchased. They finally came down in price to be worth a try. No problems yet, but only installed for a couple of days. Hopefully it will be good in the long run. D
