Customer Reviews of Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 Hard Drive - 160GB, 3.5", Ultra ATA/100, 8MB, 7200RPM - Internal Hard Drive
Expensive per Gb, old technology that you have to pay a premium for because its no longer bieng produced in large quantity. Other than that this is as about as good as the tech got before the sata changeover. I would not hesitate to buy another for replacing an old harddrive in an older P4 system that the owner just refused to upgrade(mom).
Great HD for older computer5/16/2009
After reading the forums on correcting the storage issues (running XP Pro), I got the drive up and running flawlessly. It works great, and I have no complaints, very fast and efficient drive.
Saved a 7-yr old Dell5/11/2009
I bought this hard drive to replace the 40 GB one that died in a 7-year old Dell Dimension 4550. I decided to try this route instead of buying a new computer since only the kids use this computer. I installed this new 160 GB hard drive and reinstalled Win XP and all drivers and everything else on it (this took a little time to do), and now the computer is screaming fast, and with a much bigger hard drive. The computer is like new again. I just paid $50 to save this computer instead of buying a new computer for them. I am thrilled!
Delivery of the seagate hard drive was earlier than quoted.Price was great. Installation and perfomance was as expected. Would suggest taht all users download the Seagate Disk Wizard software. It saved my bacon when I hosed the system using a third party software to partition the new dirve.I had saved an image of the c;\ drive before partitioning and was able to restore the GOOD system!
I bought this hard drive to upgrade a slower disk. The drive did not come with any software, so I had to download the Seagate DiscWizard software. I added the second drive and cloned the disk. Everything runs faster.
Great drive, great price4/7/2009
This drive replaced the same drive in a Compaq machine that had failed. It came well packed with a shipping receipt. Plugged it in, closed the computer, fired it up, inserted the recovery disks (yes you should always make a set just for this reason) and the machine took care of the rest. This was too easy. I've never done any project before that didn't have a glitch in it, but this time I was pleasantly surprised. If you don't have those recovery disks, you may have a bit more of a challenge.
Excellent replacement drive4/1/2009
Purchased this drive to replace a failing Dell OEM'd Seagate 80GB. The drive is much slimmer than the 80GB and so far it's running a little cooler. Excellent value!
I needed a low capacity IDE drive to replace a failed drive on an aging desktop. This drive was the best value and so far has performed flawlessly.

Great Drive at a fair price2/18/2009
This bulk drive was purchased to replace a 60GB drive that crashed in my wifes computer (a Dell), which had Windows XP sp1 for an operating system. The Windows CD formated the drive, no problem, and we had a 152 MB drive with 8mb for the video. Seagate's web page is excellant and has very good instructions for replacing the old drive. Be careful to purchase the right type drive as this is an IDE/ATA drive not a SATA (serial hookup). Check Seagates web page to get details on the difference. The drive comes with no cables, so if you are going to replace your old IDE/ATA drive you just use the old cables. My spouse wanted to retrieve her data so I needed to order a 2 drive ribbon cable to hook up both drives so I could drag and drop the data files. If you need to save your data, order the cable with the drive and save on freight. This worked well and no data was lost. The failed sectors on the old drive contained Windows XP components, which caused the operating system to fail to load. The only problem I encountered was caused by Dell, who supplied a recovery file disk that did not run automatically, so all of the required drivers had to be loaded one at a time. Figuring this out took almost 2 days. I am sure that other manufacturers will also have their quirks. Have patience and this drive will be worth the trouble. Note: This drive has an 8 MB cache instead of the normal 2 MB, so I noticed a very nice increase in speed of operation, even after loading the antivirus system. Now that everything is back to normal, my wife loves her computer again.
Recovery from a failed hard drive2/5/2009
My wife's Dell 60 GB hard drive failed after 5 years. We bought the Seagate drive to replace it. Never had replaced a hard drive before, but, undaunted went forward. Physically, the drive plugged right in and Windows xp installation disk formated it just fine, giving 152 gb of space plus 8gb for video. Dell recovery disk for drivers was cumbersom to use, as it requires installation of each group of drivers (sound, video, etc.) as separate steps. Took me two days to figure out this process. Once all of the software was reinstalled we still had 120gb free space and the speed difference is substantial. Only bad thing is that the new hard drive came with no cables or directions. However, Seagates web site is very helpful and gives very good directions for free. The price of the drive is great, shipping is fast snd free, but in order to retrieve data from the old drive, I needed to purchase a dual drive ribbon cable, which has not yet arrived. If Buy.com had let me know I might need this cable I could have saved a lot of time by ordering it at the same time as the drive.
Easy as pi1/15/2009
This drive was easy to install and set up as the primary drive. With Seagates free download I was able to copy the entire contents of my failing drive to the new one in a few easy steps.
Easy Does It1/12/2009
This was a replacement for my original 40GB hard drive that wouldn't allow me access to repair Windows XP but still had my data on it. I made this 160GB my primary drive C), and reinstalled XP on it. XP's original edition won't recognize/format more than 130GB so this drive worked perfectly. It is extremely quiet, fast, and very reliable which is what I needed. I kept the old drive as drive E) and transferred my data onto my new drive, reloading the programs I needed. A great drive for the money, if you don't need tons of space.
They never disapoint !11/17/2008
