I don't know if there was a bad batch or what, but I've had two of these drives (purchased at different times) fail on me in the past year. One replacement is still working. I've had good luck with Maxtor drives in the past, but not with this 160GB model. After the second failure, I replaced it with a different brand.
This drive would be OK if the warranty period were longer than 1 year.
