Customer Reviews of Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive
Very worth the money!7/16/2011
My family bought one of these a year or two ago to back up all of our 5+ computers/laptops, we have all of them backed up to the drive, and I have a couple of other copies of music, videos, pictures, etc. I've also used it for work to back up some of my clients' computers. None of that has made a dent in memory usage! The drive transfers and write data efficiently and quickly, and it has a soft-white light on the front to give you the status of the drive. The stand that comes with it is handy when you don't want it to take up horizontaly space, and it communicates with the computer via a standard A to B-mini USB cable, the original pacage comes with one. Very exelent product!
Mini USB connector is sturdy, and does last, I have a My Book which the Mini USB lasted one month.....
This is my second drive as the backup I take home12/30/2010
I purchased this Seagate as my second external hard drive to remove from my office weekly. This way I am protected if my office burns down and the backup with it. I finally have my data protected in case of any emergency. I just literally swap out the drives and the system creates a backup during the week on whichever drive is attached to the server that week. Very easy.
Great price, great buy10/15/2010
Very satisfied with this product. Easy to set up and begin using.
An Ok Drive10/6/2010
Drive setup was easy enough. I did not appreciate the advertising for carbonite that was included. This morning it was making a grinding noise. I wonder what that's about.
Makes backing up a old laptop simple.9/17/2010
I recently had to backup a old laptop and it took very little time using this item. The software that that comes with the program is clear and easy to use. The storage space is amazing. Only drawback I experienced is when my computer goes into sleep mode, the external drives shuts down too so transferring a file to the drive can be interrupted if the computer is not active long enough to not go into sleep mode.
Easy Setup and Installation9/12/2010
I purchased this drive to replace my Fantom drive and have been happy with it so far (3 weeks). It was easy to setup and install. I really like the power save feature which you can customize and the 5 year warranty. I use Norton Ghost so I can't comment on the back up software. It doesn't have an on/off switch like my old drive so that is the only adjustment. Overall, I would recommend.
Very nice drive; great price!9/9/2010
This drive works flawlessly. I'm using it to backup a Windows Server 2008 R2 system. Windows reformatted the drive "to protect the security of the backup" (you can only access the drive using their backup/restore software after the formatting). The drive has demonstrated great performance and reliability.
Plug and Play!9/7/2010
Out of the box, the drive was ready to plug into my PC. I connected the cables, it was detected as a new drive and I began to use it immediately to back up gigabytes of digital photos I have accummulated over the years. I opted to not use the backup software that came with the drive since I wanted to use it for routine access. It has performed flawlessly so far. The access time is adequate but that is probably due to the limitations of USB.
Plenty of room to backup multi-computers9/28/2009
This 1 TB drive has plenty of room for all my stuff. I'm backing up three computers. External hard drives aren't new. The bundled software (Seagate manager) makes it easy to have the backup select your documents and pictures even if they are in different places. It's formatted loaded and ready to go
This is a great backup product. Inexpensive, fast, huge amount of storage, great warrenty. Comes with backup software on the drive. Simple USB installation. Wish I'd had one years ago BEFORE my hard drive died! Since I have multiple PCs, I got a 2nd one to protect my other ones.
Excellent Drive So Far3/20/2009
I've owned this drive for about 3 weeks now with no complaints - using it as an external backup for my Playstation 3. I chose to go with the Seagate 1 TB as no other manufacturer offers a 5 year warranty and Seagate drives have always proven reliable for me in the past. I still have the very first seagate I bought - 500 MB drive. Still works fine.
I'm using this drive to back up 4 computers. The drive was very easy to set up, just plug it in, install the software and away you go. This drive was $8 more expensive than a drive I was originally looking at but this one came with the backup software. Glad I went with this drive. I just backed up a computer for the 2nd time and it took maybe 60 seconds, only backing up any additional files and files that had changed. Great product.
Great product, great price, great warrenty3/10/2009
This is a GREAT deal. It took less than 5 minutes to get the drive up and running, less than 5 minutes to install the backup software, and less than 5 minutes to complete the first backup. How simple is that? Only problems are: 1) email systems don't store their data in "My Documents". You'll have to figure out where yours goes and point the software to that directory (Thunderbird saves email in "Application Data". Don't know about Outlook.). You may have other applications like that or you may store important stuff elsewhere. Second, my computer had two Windows users and the doc doesn't explain how to back up both. You must install the backup software on one user, setup a backup "plan", then log onto the other user, install the software again, and then edit the plan and add the 2nd "My Documents". Then it does both users.
fast, great size value and with a 5 yr warranty what more do you want? the built in backup software is an added bonus and work like a treat. great product.
Quiet, reliable and stylish!1/26/2009
Fast, reliable backup with a quiet fingerprint. It's a keeper. Could use a Off switch.
This is a great drive. I have used it with both XP pro and Vista and had no problems with either. I have not used the backup software that came with the drive because I have not needed it but I kept it for future use. Transfer rate is excelent. Will look for this drive or the larger version if I ever need another. With the warrenty on this drive, you can't go wrong.
The Seagate FreeAgent Desktop 1TB USB 2.0 External Hard Drive has performed well for me. Initially, I had some problems with the drive because I did not install the Seagate Drive Manager software that came on the drive. After installing the software, the drive has performed perfectly. Though the price of the drive has dropped since I bought mine, it is still an excellent value and I would recommend this product to anyone needing storage space for large files. The main selling point to me was the 5 year warranty from Seagate.
