"From the Producers of ""Slither"", ""House of the Dead"" and ""White Noise""."
A group of young environmental activists become infected, ravenous, unstoppable zombies when a forestry company's genetic experimentation goes disastrously wrong. Sheer terror can't pump enough adrenaline through these bodies to help them out of this remote forest in this gruesome tale of horror.

"Imagine 28 Days Later meets Romero's Dead movies.  D.J. Benz, HorrorTalk
"Good acting, plenty of bloodshed, and some awesome camera work...  HorrorWatch.com
"This is what all zombie movies should be like...  Slasherpool.com

Editor's Note
This contribution to the zombie horror genre explores what happens when a major forestry company attempts to genetically increase the wood output in one particular part of the forest. What they don't foresee is that their experiments will go awry, and accidentally turn several workers and protestors into a race of flesh-eating zombies out to get their revenge.

Professional Reviews

Variety.com 9 of 10
Pushing the zombie movie in a direction even George Romero would envy, "Severed" ingeniously sets up a confrontation between eco-activists and loggers that turns decidedly ghoulish -- and incisively political. Drawing from the art-horror pics of Larry Fessenden, Canuck helmer Carl Bessai applies a serious veneer that's a carryover from his personal work ("Emile") to a full-on genre display that should greatly please the hardcore crowd and arthouse denizens...Bessai's actors freak out, get muddy and bloody and bring out quirky traits of the characters while the helmer and his production team, especially lenser James Liston and sound man Scott Aitken... - Robert Koehler

The Film Fiend 8 of 10
I'll go ahead and say this up front: Severed is by no means an original movie. For starters, it borrows heavily from Danny Boyle's don't-call-it-a-zombie-flick 28 Days Later, as well as countless other influential zombie pictures. If you're well-versed in the world of the undead, then you'll be able to spot these borrowed bits with little to no effort on your part. That said, I do think that Severed is one hell of a movie, period. The level of intensity is through the roof, resulting in several suspenseful moments, as well as a few VERY emotional twists and turns. While the setup may be somewhat stale, the execution most certainly is not, saving Carl Bessai's wonderful little film from becoming just another throw-away zombie picture with nothing new to offer. - T. Rigney
