For a young society woman seeking a favorable marriage in the late 1890s, so much depends on her social season debut. Clara Carter has been given one goal: secure the affections of the city''s most eligible bachelor. Yet Clara wonders if this is the life she really wants.
From the Publisher:
As Clara Carter prepares to make her debut on the city's social scene just before the turn of the century, she wonders if the celebrity spotlight is truly what she wants when she meets a man who seems to love her simply for who she is. Original.
Siri Mitchell sets this engaging historical romance in New York City in the 1890s. Clara Carter is a society girl who is thrust into the spotlight after she makes her formal debut. As Clara pursues a wealthy bachelor, her sights start to wonder to a different man, and she begins to question what she truly wants out of life.

Expert Review She Walks in Beauty by Siri Mitchell - Book Review
By: Jennifer Bogart Reviews

When the bookish Clara Carter finds herself thrust into debuting a year before she is prepared to in late nineteenth century New York, she finds herself immersed in a foreign world of manipulation and intrigue. Directed by her family to secure a suitor she finds unappealing, Clara finds herself making concessions on every front in the name of familial duty. I don’t read much Christian romantic historical fiction, but Siri Mitchell has made it onto my list of contemporary authors not to miss. Her vivid writing is filled with strong characterizations and emotions that ring true. Integrated (but not preachy) spiritual lessons are paired with unforgettable historical settings; Mitchell’s books are simply a pleasure to the full review
