Shield 1st Season (2002)
The Road to Justice Will Blow You Away!
| Detective Vic Mackey is the leader of an elite Strike Team unit, a group of cops effective at eliminating crime but also operating under Vic's own set of rules. But his rules sometimes cross the fine line between legal and illegal. Now the precinct has a new captain who doesn't like Vic's tactics and wants to bust him off the force -- even as he finds himself going to Vic for help whenever the going gets rough. There's a reason this show is on cable. It "takes the grit and reality of a Homicide or Sopranos to a whole another level" (Newsday). The Shield also made history by earning the most nominations ever for a basic cable drama series, with Michael Chiklis winning the coveted Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Now is your chance to experience all the action and excitement of television's most controversial show...from the beginning. This four disc collection includes all 13 episodes from Season 1 of The Shield! |

"...riveting police drama...compelling...spellbinding television. Dan Heaton, Digitally Obsessed!
"...the hardest-hitting, most balls-to-the-wall show on television, and one of the high points of the seemingly emaciated cop genre. Dave Johnson, DVD Verdict
"The Shield is America in microcosm; entertaining the audience as this show provokes thought on very real issues that face all of us today. Home Theater Info
"The storylines are tight, there's rarely ever a dull moment, and it's well acted. Ron J. Epstein, DVD Talk
"...stabs the cop-show genre in the gut and rubs salt in the wounds...a must for any lover of crime fiction. Tor Thorsen, Reel.com

Editor's Note
Shawn Ryan, a regular writer for "Angel" and other programs, created this crime drama to challenge the mores of televised entertainment and to provide a heightened reality with increasingly complicated moral questions. Michael Chiklis stars as Vic Mackey, perhaps television's most no-nonsense detective. His violent, brutal methods bring results, but are often despised by his colleague Detective Wyms (CCH Pounder). Also included are a cast of layered characters including a homosexual cop (Michael Jace) and an officer who is also running for office (Benito Martinez). The show's popularity on the F/X network comes from its hard boiled delivery emphasized by unflinching portrayals of police brutality and unclean street language. Episodes have been helmed by first-rate directors including Nick Gomez (LAWS OF GRAVITY, THE SOPRANOS) and D.J. Caruso (THE SALTON SEA).
