| In 2007, and out of Detroit of all places, chugged the Southern rock record of the decade. The Deadstring Brothers' sophomore effort, SILVER MOUNTAIN, does everything so right--chiming Rhodes chords, blazing pedal-steel solos, great songwriting hooks, and gritty male/female blue-eyed-soul vocal trade-offs--recalling vintage Mother Earth, BROTHERS AND SISTERS-era Allmans, or A NOD IS AS GOOD AS A WINK-era Faces. But SILVER MOUNTAIN is no mere retro exercise, as it roars on every track with the intensity of a true revival. Sometimes a band just gets it. This is one of those times. | |
