I wanted a drive to put movies and big files in. I reviewed other hard drive brands before I finally chose this SimpleTech [re]drive made by Hitachi. I do not have eSATA on my laptop to speed up loading. Thus, I needed a hard drive that is fast. This particular 'green' drive did not have reviews, but it's equivalent that is not 'green' had almost perfect '5' as a score, also by Hitachi. So, I took the risk on purchasing this, having not read anyone who had used this yet. This makes me the first to review this item. Well, in other reviews of other products, the drive automatically backed up all their files, which I did not prefer. And in other products' reviews also, they could not copy and paste files. This product did just the opposite. It did not 'automatically' back up my files upon connection and it let me copy and paste freely just like using a flash drive. The difference is that this has a WHOLE LOT BIGGER space than my flash drives that have a cost range from $10.00-$60.00 each, depending on the size. I got this unit for $74.99. That is like buying about at least 7-8 flash drives with 2-4 GB space. But this one, at $74.99, I have 1 TeraBytes!!! That's 1000 GBs! That is a BIG WOW! And here I was collecting flash drives of 2, 4, 8, etc + GBs. The unit has a cool look and it is 'cool' also. It is not hot. It did as it said it would. It came without a manual. Just a STEP 1, 2, and 3 on the under side of the cover of the box. And that was it. I just plugged the two cables and it was there already, just like a flash drive. I clicked on the Getting Starting on the Drive folder, and it had REGISTER, BACK UP, FORMAT, JOGGLE, TURBO, and HELP options there. I called customer service. There was NO long wait. I got someone right away and they were nice and they answered all my questions. I called twice because I forgot to ask more queries. I felt stupid asking silly computer questions, but they were really nice not taking my questions as silly. They explained how the system works. Actually, I did not need to call them because I already did the copy and pasting myself. It was so easy to understand what to do. I was just curious on what all the other buttons were for. I got to find out also that my laptop has its own turbo power already so it did not need the turbo feature. The man said that the latest versions have turbo in their systems already: example Vista and Windows 7. The turbo is only for Windows XP because it does not have the turbo in its system yet. So, I got to realize that that was why my copy and pasting was so FAST!!! I did not need a eSATA after all! And I had this laptop since April 2008. A thumbs up for this drive. This is my first EXTERNAL hard drive ever and I'm lucky to get an excellent one!
