Product Overview

Welcome to the daffy, laffy, fun-as-saltwater-taffy Fourth Big Boxed Set of The Simpsons on DVD, featuring every yok, chortle, titter, and knee-slapper from perhaps the greatest season in the show's history, at least until Season 5.

The box is full of many fan favorites: Bart and Lisa's ill-fated trip to Kamp Krusty; Homer's encounter with a five-fingered God (the theological implications of which are staggering); Maggie's great escape from the Ayn Rand School for Tots; Marge, Apu, Chief Wiggum, and Flanders singing their hearts out in "Oh! Streetcar!"; the disturbing debut of Itchy & Scratchy in "Steamboat Itchy"; the legendary Mr. Plow/Plow King rivalry; the animated adventures of Worker & Parasite; Ralph Wiggum's immortal "Choo-Choo-Choose Me" valentine to Lisa; and of course the classic monorail episode. That's the one that has my all-time favorite Simpsons line, when Homer points at the hissing possum family and says: "I call the big one Bitey."

So on behalf of the brilliant animators, actors, writes, musicians, production team, and assorted abused underlings, I'd Like to welcome you to another great batch of Simpsons, or, as they say in France, Les Simpson.

Your pal,Matt Groening

Editors Note
Note The fourth season of Fox's hugely influential animated series finally comes to home video. Over the course of twenty-two episodes, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie Simpson bicker, bond, and interact with the crazy residents of Springfield, USA. Episodes include "Kamp Krusty," "Marge Gets a Job," "The New Kid on the Block," "Mr. Plow," "Lisa's First Word," "Homer's Triple Bypass," and "Marge vs. the Monorail," with guest appearances by Tom Jones, Leonard Nimoy, Pamela Reed, and many more.
Reviews
Sight and Sound "The fourth season confirmed THE SIMPSONS' transition from scratchy family satire into America's slickest sitcom as Groening and co. experiment with increasingly sophisticated plotting, animation and full-on production numbers." 10/01/2004 p.77
Entertainment Weekly "This was when the show really hit its stride, when the writing transitioned from smart-mouthed to just plain smart..." 11/26/2004 p.63

Review As the longest running animated show in history, and the longest running prime-time show of any type, The Simpsons is an American treasure - a combination of humor, wit, and satire that examines not just the lives of its eccentric characters, but also the society, culture, and world in which we live. Fun for adults and children alike, The Simpsons is a cutting edge television comedy that, like Seinfeld, altered the television landscape in the 1990's by dictating a new genre of TV fun that spawned network investment in new animated series such as King of the Hill, Futurama, and The Family Guy...Like all new things which smash the paradigm of life, The Simpsons is unrivaled by its knockoffs, and the show doesn't show signs of slowing down.
