| The controversial sitcom that defined the late '70s and became an instant classic, Soap took viewers into the homes of not one but two of the most dysfunctional families ever - and we couldn't help but embrace every eccentric one of them! The unparalleled cast features Billy Crystal, Richard Mulligan, Robert Guillaume, Emmy nominees Katherine Helmond and Cathryn Damon, Robert Mandan, Diana Canova, Jimmy Baio and Arthur Peterson. Editor's Note
Billy Crystal got his start as one of the first gay characters to appear on prime-time television in this once controversial series. As TV entertainment, SOAP was ahead of its time both creatively--functioning as a parody of the soap opera within the trappings of a prime-time sitcom--and topically--dealing with such issues as interracial marriage, gay parenting, marital infidelity, and impotence. Robert Urich, Richard Mulligan, Katherine Helmond (WHO'S THE BOSS), Robert Guillaume (SPORTS NIGHT), and a host of others round out the impressive ensemble cast of all four seasons and 85 episodes of this must-own for any enthusiast of progressive television. Fans that can't get enough of Guillaume's Benson on this series may be interested to know the character was spun-off into its own show, titled BENSON.
