very good value
I found this radio receiver to be a very good value. I have owned a number of shortwave receivers and this one is the best in one regard, which is the ECSS tuning capability. One downside is that it is not intuitive to run the controls. I am always hitting the wrong buttons. Another comment I have read about this radio is that the speaker audio is not real good. I find this to be false. The audio is about the best I have ever heard for intelligibility. It is not Hi Fi sound but then again, HI Fi audio is a poor choice for listening to shortwave broadcasts. The speaker on this radio was a very good choice for its purpose. Another plus is the excellent sound SSB and also the rock solid stability. It drifts a few odd hertz in an hours time. Its stability almost precludes the need for the AM synch lock mode. Just zero beating the BFO on an AM station achieves the same thing with the added benefit of not losing lock during a deep fade. I have already performed a couple mods on mine which enhance it a lot in my opinion. One is to eliminate the muting that occurs when scanning the dial. Another is to, enhance by deepening, the lock capability of the AM sync mode (ECSS), One real disappointment was the whip antenna. It is very wobbly by design, not just a case of loose screws. Also the little slide switches are stiff to move. A bit of handy work with a cable crimper and JB-Weld fixes the antenna quite nicely though.
