Customer Reviews of Sony STR-DN1010 7.1-Channel 3D Ready Home Theater Receiver
worth the money12/18/2012
Great surround sound Sony option11/12/2012
I have an older Sony now that has no HDMI and only 1 optical. This is an upgrade for me, to allow better expansion and functionallity for future HD connections. The extremely clean front look and still having the signature blue indicator to tell you that surround decoding is correctly happening easily is a plus. I prefer push & clip wire connection, but having banana plugs was not a big deal. You due have to have additional HDMI cables, but, the trade off is that you need much less others.
I've only used a few of the features so far, but I'm really impressed. Receiver was a great price.
Easy to set-up, has a lot of features that I am still reading about. Sounds great!
Works just as described
Great SONY A/V Receiver10/23/2012
Quick shipper, arrived quikly in a well protected package, exactly as described Brand New in box.
Works very well with other SONY products10/23/2012
I have a SONY TV and SONY BluRay player. The remote of this Receiver was able to control both the TV and the BluRay player so I don't have to have those remotes laying around anymore. It also controls most of the functions of my Samsung up-converting DVD player, which I don't use much since I got the BluRay.
Solid unit for price10/22/2012
This receiver replaced a unit in a home theater room with 7.1 sound. It was easy to install and sound and picture run through it are very good.
All went well. I like it that way.
Solid Sony quality10/22/2012
This unit was purchased to replace a Sony STR-DG920 as part of my home theater upgrade to 3D. Quality and features are comparable and the 3D pass through works well
Sony 7.1 A/V Reciever10/5/2012
Excellent product. Does what it's supposed to. Improved the sound for TV and DVDs.
Finish is nice and sound quality is great. I have been unable to see the display on a TV, despite having the hdmi and cable connections. Manual is difficult.
Great 7.1 Amp10/1/2012
Have not purchased too many Sony products I did not like. This works great. The automatic setup with the supplied MIC was super.
Love the sounds coming from this unit. I have yet to unlock it's full potential, but I see that you can directly connect this unit to the television for on screen adjustments. What an awesome feature! Lots of HDMI ports. I'd recommend getting banana jacks for easier installation of the speaker wire if you've got hot dogs fingers like mine. :] overall i'm pleased with this purchase.
this is a good product
Great receiver at a great price.
It took a little while to figure out setup, but it sounds great. No problems hooking it up. The guide only comes up with my blu ray on won't come on with just the tv.
Great but lame GUI8/23/2012
Everything is great but GUI / setup is cumbersome. You can switch prompts to video, but you lose picture and sound of TV. Once you get past setup it is great. I would recommend
great product and arrived ahead of schedule. would most definately shop with this company again.
Sony 7.1 Surround Sound8/16/2012
Great receiver at and awesome price. it was a little difficult to setup because of the way the speaker pegs are.
Product was delivered earlier than the estimate and works great!
Awesome stereo and intuitive. Now powering my livingroom home theater system. his stereo is so easy to work with and intergrates into my Panasonic TV very easy. Setup was a breeze, and to use it has been very easy for my wife. Certaintly has more power hten I will ever use, but it sounds great. I would recomend it to anyone.
Great Customer Support7/6/2012
Seller answerd all my questions/concerns. Very happy with unit & customer service !!!!
Very Strange Product7/3/2012
None of the HDMI connections worked and, if you did not power up the receiver first, it would get out of sequence with the TV and you could not get sound and picture together. Sound was good.
Good product - bad manual7/3/2012
The receiver is excellent, and once it is set up, it is very easy to use. The manual, however, is written in such a circular manner, that it makes it difficult to actually make it work. However, I finally reached a Sony technician who walked me through all the steps to make things work, and I am now very happy with the product. There needs to be a set instructions written in a linear manner, so that you don't have to go from page to page trying to figure things out.
Item works well. No issues.
Ideal for someone with mix of old and new componen6/30/2012
Great price on a great unit. So far I've been very pleased. This model is new enough to have pass through for the 4 HDMI inputs and upscaling for the HDMI output, yet is old enough to have a good selection of pre-HDMI component and composite video connections. I like the sound it puts out. The speaker calibration process was very easy. Using the GUI and the manual is not so easy, but I was able to get everything set up the way I wanted - except, I too can't understand why there is no HDMI on the audio side of the assignment menu. So, I have to press "HDMI 2" and not "BD" to get both audio and video from my bluray player.
I’m glad I didn’t settle for the lower model like I had originally planned! It made organizing my entire entertainment center a breeze this stereo has way more than enough connections. I have my Blue Ray, X-Box, Laptop, Satellite and my Wie all hooked up with HDMI(exclude Wie) and the sound and picture is amazing.
it's amazing to me. If you're looking to jump into the general waters of a receiver with 3D pass through, this could be for you.
A very good receiver5/30/2012
It has as bi-amp capabilities and Speaker A/B for having Front High or Surround Backs or just a dual front (by activating A and B speaker sets at the same time). I personally like double stacking front speakers.
It has the blue LED that indicates the receiver is decoding multi-channel audio. GUI mode is great and works flawlessly when you use it to connect all your peripherals. Setting individual speaker distances and volumes is a breeze and makes it much less of a chore seeing the visual of your system.
reat Receiver for your Media Center5/18/2012
It is sleek and looks good with the mostly button and knob-less front. ALL signals are sent out the HDMI out cable. This includes standard analog connections like RCA and Component, as well as digital video and audio sources such as S/PDIF connections and other HDMI sources. You need only 1 cable into your HDTV.
Sony AV Receiver4/30/2012
Purchased at promotional price of $219. This a lot of product for a modest price. I love the feature-rich nature of this receiver, particularly the pass through option (not present in comparable Pioneer model). Overall, this is a really good value!
For around 200 dollars to get the Sony STR was amazing. The features on the Sony allow me to connect 4 HDMI connections and run them through my in room 7.1 speaker setup. The model is sleek looking and performs above my expectations for the price that I paid.
I thought I was getting an upgrade from my previous receiver, but that wasn't the case as my 5 year old 50" HD TV doesn't handle the TV signal through the receiver. This is very disappointing!
the on screen menu is not easy to get thru and about as clear as mud..
All the current inputs needed3/23/2012
This was a bargain replacement for my old receiver/tuner (also a Sony). The instruction book is thorough (still have quite a bit to read) and installation only took a few times to rework.
Sony a Good Choice3/23/2012
As described, this was easy to set up and works great with my other Sony components.
This thing rocks!3/16/2012
Pros: really loud Cons: radio reception is terrible compared to my older systems, HDMI passthrough is slightly glitchy as I can see pixels moving
Great sounding receiver2/20/2012
The receiver works great and sounds great.
A workhorse, no frills unit10/19/2011
If you need an inexpensive receiver that can decode every surround format under the sun, this unit works great. Plenty of power, sounds good, not hard to set up. As the other reviewer noted, the inputs aren't assignable - for example, my DB player will always be "HDMI 3" and never "Blueray Player", but that just isn't a big issue for me. This unit does work with Panasonic Viera Link (HDMI 1.4), my Panasonic G25 does turn this receiver on and off. That was the big question mark for me when I bought this and it ended up working with no problem.
S-Air no longer supported by Sony5/5/2011
I bought this Receiver to replace the 1000 version and although it has many many features, I discovered that I now need wireless rear speakers and Sony told me they no longer support the wireless technology for this and any other S-Air components; there is an adapter required to make the S-Air work and Sony no longer sells it and I could only find 1 on ebay for over $100. Sony's indifference to the issue made me so mad I returned the unit still in the box.
excellent till it quit working4/18/2011
i loved this unit it was very easy to set up and sounded very good.. much better than the one before it... untill after 8 months one day turned everything on and it quit working and it's been impossible to find someone in my area thats authorized repair for sony so it's going to cost me more money to see if it is repairable....
Great sounding easy to use. Great amount of inputs. the gui does its job but would be better XMB style. The remote is great and easy to program, it even will replace your Dish Network remote prefectly. Supports most new formats and you will not be dissapointed especially at Beachaudios $350 price tag. HDMI Passthrough works great, bravia sync, even running cool for me at high volumes unlike some others. ill be using this reciever for years to come.
Not for novice users12/27/2010
Out of the box this thing is junk. You have to manually set up EVERYTHING to get decent performance out of it. Sony cut corners in my honest opinion. The remote is even worse. The biggest flaw is the inability to assign HDMI audio to custom inputs...It has 4 HDMI which is nice, but you the remote will make you regret using all 4. The onscreen gui is baaad. In the end, if you are diligent and have a week or two to tweak settings you can get MAKE it do what you want. The 3d pass through is good with no loss or noise. It also has trouble switching inputs (sometimes gets "stuck" making you have to restart the unit. I cant give more than 3 stars because of all the shortcomings with switching and inability to assign HDMI audio..
Did alot of research for this-was a great buy-33% off most normal retail prices. Best feature is pass thru-which allows you to run TV thru receiver-but only listen to sound thru TV if you do not want to have your surround on
A great receiver at an exceptional value8/20/2010
I purchased the Sony STR-DN1010 as part of my purchase of a new Sony HDTV and Blu-ray DVD Player. I'm extremely pleased with my purchase of this receiver. Setup of the receiver was simple with the on-screen graphical user interface. I was amazed that the auto calibration function worked so well, as I usually spend a lot of time with the speaker settings. It actually took me 4 hours to connect and configure everything as there are several settings and configurations you can adjust. The final result was well worth the time. Some of the features I really enjoy are the standby pass-through and the night mode. We often watch movies at night when the kids are sleeping. The pass-through allows you to watch movies by using the TV speakers instead of through your surround sound system. The night mode offers the ability to play the audio through the surround sound system at low volume levels. It's a clean and functional receiver that would complement any home theater at a great price.
I am very satisfied!8/15/2010
I bought this receiver as an upgrade for my old one, because it had no HDMI-Input. With the four HDMI-Inputs and the possibility to assign different digitial audio inputs to the video/HDDMI-sources I could use my equipment as expected. Only if you use the HDMI-buttons on the remote you are fixed to the audio signal which comes over this channel, but you are able to assign it felxibel to the SAT, DVD, etc. inputs. For me to setup the system was ok, but actually it is al little bit to complicated. The remote has really a lot of buttons - with the programable Logitech I use the "unuseful" HDMI 1 to 4 buttons disappears (because of my different audio setup. The only disadvantage until now: The signal which comes from my mac mini (per HDMI-cable) is rescaled from the receiver. If I connect the mac mini directly to my tv it looks better (with overscan), through the sony it becomes bigger - and after switching of the "overscan" on the mac i lost aorund 20px on every side - and the pictures becomes a little bit fuzzy and too much colorful. I am still working on this, but: I would recommend this receiver as flexibel and worth the money!
