Professional grade, very low price5/31/2007
There are many semi-professional video non-liner editing software in the market, most of them comes with a ridiculous price tag and or hardware requirement. Avid express DV is the king of this type of software. With only a quarter of the price and a not so state of the art computer, this software can give you pretty much the same professional look and feel if not more. On top of all these, it also comes with a DVD authoring software, you can easily create chapter, menu items and many other nice little thing. The project file is so small, it is actually a reference file and it never really modify your original video files. Means even you deleted some segments of video or audio in your project, they are still in your original files. No need to worry that you accidentally deleted something and will never see them again. It also does not make a full copy of video for your project, so it will not chew up your hard drive space. Adding text and background music is a breeze, works best when you creating a movie from home video. No matter you want to cut a piece and post it on You tube or burn a DVD for your grandparents, this is the best bang for the buck. User menu and help document is not very helpful, but since the project will not change or hurt your original video, why not try everything yourself. Learning curve are really steep, once you learned the first few basic editing skills, you can add more new fancy looking effects to your project very fast.
Great Editing Software5/30/2007
I have been searching for a video editing software title for some time, countless reviews and I was down to Pinnacle or Vegas. Vegas seemed to have the best reviews and the least amount of compatibility issues. On top of that Buy.com was practically giving it away compared to other sites. $60 in rebates! It took some time to get the software to work with my Sony Camcorder... but after a couple installs it works well to capture from the camera. I have just started to use it vast number of features to create some shorts, and I am looking forward to creating some cool videos for the family. ... Might have to wait until winter because it is summer time and I can't stand sitting in front of a PC when it is beautiful outside. Time to go take some video! I would highly recommend this product and Buy.com.
Great Product for the money5/25/2007
Works great once you get the hang of it. It has wonderful features such as multiple tracks of video and audio mixing. For a beginner, it is not very friendly to use (just the opposite to what it claims to be). The DVD part is more confusing. Transferring Vegas output to the DVD production part is a bad approach. Sony should have combined it in one product. I am still trying to learn it. Most of the impressive features such as many good audio/video plug-ins are available only in the full version. By all means it is still worth the price.
Good stuff, but5/25/2007
This product includes two software, 1) Movie Studio, this is used to edit movie. This is very good. I like it a lot. The "Show Me How" is super. Nothing to complain about. 2) DVD studio. This is used to make the menu, preview and burn the DVD. Everything is fine except that there are always some annoying delay between chapters. I contacted their technical support and they suspected it was my computer's problem. But how can you explain why the preview is normal? Now I have to use another non-Sony software to burn the DVD.
Sony Vegas Movie Studio + DVD5/25/2007
After purchasing and installing this product I tried to make my first DVD. The Movie Studio product worked fine after a little trial and error on usage. When I tried to create the DVD with the DVD product is when the trouble began. It would burn sucessfully, it said, but when I tried to play it back, either on my home theatre or my computer it said there was nothing on it. After 3 attempts for help from Sony I finally had a lady help me who ultimately upgraded my DVD 3 to DVD 4 for free. This cleared up the problem. The first level help was worthless.
Sony Vegas-Great: DVD-not so much4/25/2007
The Sony Vegas Product is great. The hard copy instructions with it only scratches the surface, make sure you look on the DVD manual for the good stuff. The DVD authoring program on the other hand does work, but the directions for its use are not at all user friendly (at least for me). I finally made it do what I wanted it to but it took several agonizing hours. The final product looks GREAT!
No Vista Compatibility4/25/2007
I bought this product for the DVD Authoring part. I really like the product in how it designs menus and features. Problem was I got it all done and created and because of vista incompatibily I couldn't burn the disk. Talked to Sony and their answer was the box doesn't say vista on it and no we are not releasing a patch, but we are working on a new version that is. I just bought the product a month ago and feel they could at least offer some kind of upgrade option. Just buyer beware if you got vista...
