Soylent Green(Blu-ray) (1973)
It's the Year 2022... People Are Still the Same. They'll Do Anything to Get What They Need. and They Need Soylent Green.
|Soylent Green is landmark screen science-fiction, a riveting entertainment and a cautionary tale that holds a mirror to a tomorrow rife with ecological disaster. Working well again in the futuristic genre following Planet of the Apes and The Omega Man, action titan Charlton Heston portrays Thorn, a detective prowling the dank streets of a polluted, overpopulated Big Apple gone rotten in 2022. He's trailing a murderer ? and the trail leads to a stunning discovery. Vividly realized, Soylent Green's world gains its power not just from its special effects but from its heart ? a human dimension magnified by the performance of legendary Edward G. Robinson in his moving screen farewell.|
"A thought-provoking movie that is still relevant with the many environmental concerns that are out there now. Ryan Cracknell, Film Threat
"This influential vision of an overpopulated future has a horrific plausibility that's hard to shake off. Urban Cinefile
Editor's Note21st century New York City is (still) an overpopulated mess, and the only food left is Soylent Green, a soybean and lentil concoction with an extra-special, government-mandated ingredient. As police detective Thorn (Charlton Heston) investigates a murder, he learns of a conspiracy with bizarre implications. This Edward G. Robinson's final movie, as the star died not long after filming his final scene. Based on Harry Harrison's "Make Room! Make Room!"
