From the Publisher:
A gripping thriller about an evangelistic preacher turned killer from New York Times bestselling author Jeffery Deaver.Tate Collier is the silver-tongued prosecutor whose successful career has finally caught up with him. When their daughter disappears, Collier and his ex-wife desperately want to believe it's teenage rebellion. But insidious signs point to foul play. Indeed, the past has come back to haunt Collier?in the form of Aaron Matthews, a brilliant, Harvard-educated psychiatrist bent on vengeance of Biblical proportions. Matthews, a gifted orator himself, soon drops words for weaponry, and in his murderous rage will go to any length to ruin Collier's life. Featuring an urgent race against the clock and the trademark Jeffery Deaver plot twists, Speaking in Tongues delivers the suspense punch that has made this author a reader favorite and explosive bestseller.
Dr. Aaron Matthews is a brilliant therapist of international renown. If only the characters of SPEAKING IN TONGUES knew that he is also a homicidal psychopath. At the beginning of this novel, Matthews kidnaps young Megan McCall and imprisons her in an abandoned, vermin-ridden mental hospital, which makes for as Gothic a setting as you could want. Among Megan's would-be rescuers are her father, the brilliant lawyer Tate Collier, her mother, Bett, and her sensitive, romance-novel-reading boyfriend, Josh. The estranged Tate and Bett rekindle their romance as they work together to find Megan. Meanwhile, the genius manipulator Dr. Matthews attacks his enemies with nothing but words--exploiting their weaknesses and convincing them to destroy themselves.
Author Bio
Jeffery Deaver
Jeffery Wilds Deaver was born and raised in Chicago. He attended the University of Missouri and received a law degree from Fordham University. A self-described "terrible attorney," Deaver quit the law in 1990 to pursue a full-time writing career based on his fascination with and love of suspense. "When I teach courses in writing," Deaver said in a interview, "I always tell my students to write what you enjoy reading and I have always been a big fan of the sort of book I write--the plot-driven commercial thriller." Deaver's modus operandi has proven lucrative since his first book was published in the early 1990s. Several of his books have achieved best-seller status and two--THE BONE COLLECTOR (1997) and A MAIDEN'S GRAVE (1995)--have been adapted for film. Deaver's sister, Julie Reece Deaver, is an author of young adult books.

Chicago Tribune
"[D]on't get the impression that this is a highfalutin literary thriller. There's plenty of action to break up the talk, and while the plot mechanics may falter at points, this one packs a lot of wallop." - Chris Petrakos 01/21/2001

New York Times
"[A] violent, action-heavy story....[E]ffectively shocking..." - Janet Maslin 12/07/2000
