|Over its six-season run, the ground-breaking, critically acclaimed St. Elsewhere was nominated for over 60 Emmy Awards, winning 13 of them! This remarkable series, with its unique blend of intense medical drama, off-beat humor and imaginative storytelling, paved the way for later TV classics such as E.R. and Chicago Hope, while introducing America to future superstars Mark Harmon, Howie Mandel, and Oscar(r)-winner* Denzel Washington. Eccentric, insightful, and intelligent, St. Elsewhere is considered to be one of the best dramas ever to air on broadcast television.System Requirements:Running Time 1078 Mins.Format: DVD MOVIE|
Editor's NoteWith a six-season run that lasted from 1982 to 1988, ST. ELSEWHERE was a groundbreaking show in many ways, abandoning idealistic medical drama for a more realistic portrayal of an urban hospital. With an ensemble cast and numerous simultaneous storylines, the series looked forward to shows like E.R., while the sometimes shocking material--ST. ELSEWHERE was the first show to portray a person with AIDS--forecast NYPD BLUE. Set in St. Eligius Hospital in South Boston, the show follows a cast of caring doctors and nurses who do their best with what they have in this underfunded, dilapidated establishment. Though the show is rife with comedy, it also doesn't shy away from tragedy, with characters--patients as well as primary characters--occasionally dying unexpectedly. This collection features all the episodes from the first season.
