Editor's Note
Humble comedian Mike Birbiglia stars as Stanley Cuba, a man whose life and art, like his name, seem to imitate those of legendary filmmaker Stanley Kubrick. While in the midst of recovering from a breakup with his girlfriend, Cuba learns he is being pursued by intellectual property lawyers over issues with his photography work. He accidentally knocks himself over the head with a black monolith--er, obelisk--and flashes forward to the future to discover many important things, not least of which the recipe of painter Jackson Pollack's success and the secret behind room 237. Can Cuba grasp the true meaning of these things without having to kiss his girlfriend's mom? This deadpan satire is both a parody of Kubrick's work and an examination of parody itself.
