Love Stargate Atlantis

on 3/12/2008

There were a lot of things I had forgotten that had occured in the first season. Also, I noticed that the Scifi channel is now showing re-runs of the first season and have deleted quite a bit in order to "fit" it into the running time. Thank God for DVD's! Read More

Product Overview

When a secret base, abandoned by the original builders of the Stargates, is found buried in the ice of Antarctica, the newly formed Stargate Atlantis team is born. The team's discovery leads to a daring expeditiion to the distant Pegasus galaxy, where they encounter a primitive human civilization and a sinister new enemy that threatens human life everywhere. The Stargate Atlantis mission is headed by Dr. Elizabeth Weir, a specialist in diplomatic relations. Her political savvy is balanced by the bravado of her military counterpart, Major John Sheppard, a courageous pilot. Rounding out the crew are Lt. Aiden Ford, Sheppard's second-in-command, Dr. Rodney McKay, a clever and quick-witted astrophysicist and Teyla, a beautiful young leader among the primitive alien civilization that the Atlantis team encounters.

Editors Note
Note A team of scientists and military personnel is dispatched to the distant Pegasus galaxy to explore the remnants of the Lost City of the Ancients--also known as Atlantis--in this first season of the STARGATE SG-1 spin-off series. The Ancients were an advanced human race that initially created the Stargate network, and diplomat Dr. Elizabeth Weir (Torri Higginson) and pilot Major John Sheppherd (Joe Flanigan) head the international squad that is sent to investigate. The team arrives at Atlantis to find the city abandoned and their ship permanently stranded, unless they can find a power source to get themselves home to earth. They make contact with a brave but primitive native civilization as well as with the evil Wraith, a species that feeds on fear and, it quickly becomes clear, poses a threat to human life everywhere. Sheppard's brash, instinctive nature contrasts with the calm thoughtfulness of Dr. Weir, and their team is rounded out by Sheppard's second-in-command Lt. Aidan Ford, witty Scottish doctor Carson Beckett, Pegasus native leader Teyla Emmagen, and inimitable scientist Rodney McKay. The 20 episodes of the first season have the Stargate team feeling their way around this dangerous new galaxy and interacting with its varied inhabitants, while being forced to work as a team and learn more about each other as well.

Quotes
Allan Ogg, DVD Lard If you're a fan of Stargate SG-1 or just good science fiction, then this is well worth picking up.
BeyondHollywood.com If you like "SG-1", there's absolutely nothing about "Atlantis" that will disappoint you.
Cynthia Boris, DVD Verdict ...less Star Trek and more Star Trek: The Next Generation. It has the humor and action mix of Firefly...
Dan Heaton, DigitallyObsessed! ...sure to be a successful series for many years to come...entertaining, insightful sci-fi adventures...
Michael Abernethy, PopMatters ...has much to offer -- creative action sequences and special effects, truly creepy villains, and a likable central character...
