This thing saved the day when I bought an 500gig SATA drive that I didn't realize was incompatible with my PATA/IDE system. The only caveat is since it adds a little bump out to fit in there on my eMachine tower which has the drives mounted sideways I just barely had clearance to put the side cover of the enclosure back on, but it works great. It is a little delicate given that the pins just stick up from the board so treat it with tender, loving care pushing the thing on. One irksome thing though is the jumper to make it a slave drive is really hard to make heads or tails of and the enclosed directions don't make it 100% clear. The little jumper is such a tiny sucker I had to get out my magnifying glassed and tweezers to pull it an move it from the default master position. I don't swap out drives a lot so I always choke on this detail and have to do some Googling to refresh my memory. I had a bit of a puzzle trying to decide how to set the jumper though my guess to move it over one set of pins worked.

Works as designed.

I needed a spare SATA port to connect a new SSD boot drive. I had an IDE port that I wasn't using. I used this adapter on my SATA DVD burner. With some bios changes I'm able to burn at full speed and boot from DVDs with a SATA DVD drive connected to an IDE port.
