Product Overview

Author Richard Applegate's latest book, STARVED ROCK and the Illiniwek, is an intriguing story about a little-known Indian nation, the Illiniwek, that was besieged by Chief Pontiac and his Ottawas, along with the Potawatomies. Taking place in the 1760s, this historical novel is based on legendary events that led up to the virtual demise of the once-powerful Illinois Indian nation. The relationship between Yellow Hawk, a half-breed Illiniwek warrior, and Dawn of the Potawatomies, is frowned upon by his tribe and hers, and she is reluctant to commit herself to him. A constant problem for Yellow Hawk is Shattuc, his antagonist since childhood, who resents his mixed blood and would like nothing more than to have his scalp.
