DePaola''s beloved character Strega Nona attempts to teach Big Anthony about gardening and the importance of order. But when Big Anthony does not follow her directions and tries to use her growing spell, his small vegetable patch turns into an unruly jungle.
From the Publisher:
A charming celebration of autumn's bounty by perennial favorite Tomie dePaola
|Tomie dePaola's beloved Strega Nona is back in a colorful picture book, perfect for fall and the changing seasons. With beautiful illustrations reminiscent of the artwork that won Tomie dePaola the Caldecott Honor for the original Strega Nona, this celebration of harvest and gardening will make the perfect addition to any Strega Nona collection.
Annotation:
Strega Nona, Tommie dePaola's beloved benevolent witch, reveals her secret "growing spell" to her neighbor Big Anthony as they prepare their gardens for the fall harvest. But when Big Anthony gets a little too enthusiastic with the spell, the pair ends up with an overwhelming bounty of veggies to share with their neighbors and friends. Young readers will be so delighted with the antics of dePaola's endearing characters that they might not notice that they are receiving a valuable lesson about sharing and learning some fun Italian vocabulary words.
