Andrew Vachss's implacable private eye has a new client, a woman who calls herself "Strega"--Italian for an erotic witch. She can make men volunteer to be her slaves. And she has the power to send Burke into the deepest oceans of the city, where twisted men feed on child-victims and one piece of evidence is worth a dozen lives.
Author Bio
Andrew Vachss
Andrew Vachss, an attorney specializing in juvenile justice and child abuse, has written many novels featuring social vigilante, Burke, a man with a mission to put away child molesters for good. Like his ex-con hero, Vachss (pronounced "Vax") is a social crusader for the protection of children. He graduated from case Western in 1965 with a B.A. and from The New England School of Law in 1975 with a J.D. He began his first novel in 1983 when he realized the difficulties of making a living as a lawyer representing abused children. For years, Vachss wrote ideas for characters, themes, and plots on index cards, and when he finally felt he had accumulated enough, he wrote his debut novel, FLOOD. Since then, Vachss has continued his two-pronged attack against molesters, fighting in both the courtroom and on the pages of his best-selling mysteries. He has also founded "Don't! Buy! Thai!", an organization protesting child prostitution and calling for a boycott of all products from Thailand. Vachss is the author of several comic book series (some original stories, some based on his own voluminous collection of short stories) and his nonfiction has been published in numerous national publications.

Praise

Cleveland Plain Dealer
"An absolute stunner, the toughest crime novel, and one of the most realistic, any American writer has produced."

Washington Post Book World
"It's wonderful. The words leap off the page. The plot is fresh. The principal character is original. The style is as clean as haiku."

Chicago Sun-Times
"So hard-boiled that it makes Mike Hammer and Sam Spade look like running yolks."
