Customer Reviews of Sunbeam Supreme Garment Steamer 1500 Watts
Great for the price!1/9/2014
I've only had it for one day, but I love it so far! It works just as I had hoped for. Although it states "professional" on the item, it's definitely not professional quality. But, for the price it is worth the money in my opinion. It's great for the casual home use and would not recommend it for heavy use.
The product is fast and efficient.
I use it about 5 months. It still works good so far.
Great if it lasts longer12/26/2011
The steamer worked great in the first few months. I used it mainly for shirts. After about six months of use (I used it twice a week, about an hour each time), the crease clip broke. Then the steamer completely stopped working right after the one-year warranty expired (how lucky I am !). I love this steamer when it's working. However, I do hope it could last longer considering the amount of money I invested.
I love this steamer! I was very surprised at how well it works - even on very wrinkled garments! I selected a dress shirt of my husbands that, though it is expensive, wrinkles terribly when washed. The steamer removed the wrinkles quickly and it looked good enough to wear with an open jacket. After a few more minutes of steaming, it looked good enough to wear without a jacket - especially in the humid south where nothing looks ironed about 15 minutes after you put it on! Seriously, this is a really quick and easy way to make clothes look neat and fresh. I wanted to order two more for my daughters, but they are out of stock! Hoping for another deal soon!
A Great Steamer4/20/2011
Believe it or not, I bought this as part of my defense against a bedbug infestation. Direct heat treatment is the quickest and surest way to get rid of these critters, and the Sunbeam made short work of them--pouring out volumes of live steam that I could easily direct to bedding, bedframe, and crevices. My problem is gone, and this steamer helped me do it. As for clothing: I do have a commercial steam iron that I use for shirts when they need the full treatment--but for all other 'dewrinkling' tasks, I use the Sunbeam, and here's why: 1) Fast. This thing heats up quickly, and is putting out live steam in less than a minute after it's turned on. 2) Volume of steam. LOTS of really hot, live steam is generated, and it's very easy to freshen up a sportcoat and slacks in just a minute or two. 3) Size of reservoir. I've kept the thing in use for 45 minutes or more between fills of the tank--and since I use it only occasionally, that means a long time between refillings. 4) Ease of filling. The tank comes off and slides back into place easily, and the fitting valve is secure--I've never had a spill, and unlike the steam iron, it's very convenient to fill directly from the kitchen sink tap. Thoroughly satisfied with this steamer for the use I make of it.
Better on some things than others1/3/2011
I waited to use this a few times before writing the review. I first tried it on dress shirts and while it worked I would still not wear a shirt to a meeting unless I always had a jacket on. But then I tried it on a demin shirt and it worked really well. You need to go slowly, both sides of the garment and be careful because it does get hot. Overall I think it is a good investment for quick (2-3 minute) touch-up or to get major wrinkles out. You might still need an iron if you are picky.
It has taken me a while to write a review, since I am still trying to decide if I am happy with it. It is definitely awkward to use with the attached hanger. I found that placing the item on a flat surface helps keep it in place. I have tried it with an upright ironing board , and am looking into getting one that hangs on a door. You will want to keep distilled water on hand, since it uses up alot more than an iron does. I am glad that I purchased this in November, when the price was much better....
Not an iron, but pretty great for the price12/14/2010
I got this on discount and was hoping it would save me from ironing my shirts. It definitely reduces wrinkles and works great to touch things up, but for lots of shirts I have it just doesn't get the whole job done. It is a very powerful unit for the price, and is a little flimsy but seems like it will last.
Overall, it was a great value and the unit performed well in accordance with the long-standing reputation of Sunbeam. However, the instructions to put the various pieces of the unit together were a bit confusing and the photos of the various parts to be attached to the telescoping extender rod were so small that it was difficult to figure out to what the instructions were referring (e.g. the "A" and "B" "pins"). In addition, the shipping box arrived in a torn and somewhat destroyed condition to make it look like it was used to kick a field goal during the UPS shipment. However, despite the destroyed condition of the shipping box, the unit itself did not appear to have been damaged.
pretty good for the price12/10/2010
At first, I imagined that it would do the job for you while, in fact, you have to "help" a little, but the result is there and you can pretty much steam a shirt in 45 sec to 1 minute, so it's pretty efficient. A little bit clunky, but you can wrap it in 5 seconds. comments are true re: the clips, they can help but are not strong enough to hold and tight properly. I also discovered that, because it's so hot, you get rid of some tough stains. it's nice to steam 5 shirts every week in less than 15/20 minutes. totally worth it for the price.
works well with iron11/29/2010
cannot work idependantly ...works well with iron... but the whole point of getting a steamer was to spend less time on ironing... my piece would not stop leaking at the bottom even after tightening the screw!
I wish the clips held tighter and the wand had a m11/16/2010
This was a great deal and I use it daily and love it. However, the clips do not hold garments tightly enough and using the wand when clothes are flat down causes drops of water to smear into clothes. Other than that I am glad I made the purchase. Don't toss out your iron though, the two things work well together.
Works so well it'll take wrinkles out of grandma!11/12/2010
LOVE IT! I use distilled water in it to ensure that calcification doesn't become an issue.
I bought this as I am sick of ironing my "NO IRON" shirts. This steamer works exactly as advertised. The removable water tank is easy to fill and empty with the drain plug (make sure you close it before your first use... oops) makes it really easy to drain after you use it. First time I used it I filled it with water, hit the switch and 45 seconds later I was knocking the wrinkles out of my shirt. When I was done, I emptied the unit closed the telescoping top, and slid it in the back of my closet ready for the next use. This works soo well and buy.com had the lowest price on the web!
