Editor's NoteBroken Lizard, a comedy troupe formed by former students of Colgate University, wrote and star in the enjoyably lightweight comedy SUPER TROOPERS. They play state troopers who preside over a quiet stretch of highway in Vermont. The low crime rate allows them time to pursue their own interests--mostly playing elaborate pranks on each other and on the hapless speeders they stop. Their captain, O'Hagan (Brian Cox), asks them to settle down for a while, because the governor (an amusing cameo by TV's former WONDER WOMAN, Lynda Carter) is thinking of cutting off their funding and turning their precious highway over to the jurisdiction of the hated local cops, headed by the sneaky Chief Grady (Daniel Von Bargen). The wild and not very bright troops are unable to stay out of trouble, so they'll only keep their jobs if they somehow manage to crack a big drug case. Director Jay Chandrasekhar (who also stars as the smartest trooper, Thorny) does a great job of keeping things quick and light, and the easy camaraderie of the Broken Lizard troupe gives even the grossest humor in the film an appealingly playful quality, harkening back to the innocent days of movies like STRIPES.

|I'm telling you right meow, you've got to check out this movie. Silly, bumbling cops are not a new concept in cinema. In the early 1900s we had the Keystone Kops, while during the '80s we had the Police Academy series. There's just something about watching a group of people goof around in what in reality is a very serious and dangerous profession....read the full review|

|Written by and starring members of the comedy troupe Broken Lizard, Super Troopers definitely starts out exhibiting a lot of potential. The four guys of Broken Lizard play Vermont state troopers – Thorny, Rabbit, Mac, and Farva – that spend their days pranking folks they pull over on the highway into Canada, played out to particularly good effect in the opening scene involving a car full of stoned college kids. Plus, they get their kicks picking fights with the local fuzz, and battling to keep their precinct from being shut down by the budget-minded governor (Wonder Woman herself, Lynda Carter)....read the full review|

When I first saw previews for this movie, I didn't think it would be any good. However, after watching the first time, I have completely changed my mind. This movie is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long while. Of course, a lot of people don't give it a chance just because it looks stupid, but there is a big population of people who have made this a cult classic. After seeing this movie ten's of times, it just keeps getting better. One caveat: if you put this movie in around a group of drunk people, you'll have half the group reciting the movie as it goes along. it's that memorable.
This movie is excellent! The plot is great; the acting is very good the characters are very unique and well done! I saw it on pay per view and I plan to buy it for christmas! Don't miss this wonderful movie!
Silly but Very Funny10/9/2002
You can't take this movie seriously. Just sit back, and let it make you laugh the whole way through. Being a woman, I thought this was a "man's movie" but it was much more. I can't tell you how many times I said "what the heck was that!!!" and just laughed so hard. If you like National Lampoon or Van Wilder - you'll like this.
I have never laughed so hard in my life..8/21/2002
I do not know what that other guys problem was, but this movie is very funny. I laughed so much it hurt. I can't imagine someone sitting in a movie theater and not laughing, maybe he was the Pope, but I bet even the Pope have to laugh at some parts of this movie....
A Great Movie!8/14/2002
I don't generally write reviews for movies here or anywhere else, but after reading the last review, I had to put in my two cents. My friends and I loved this movie! Absolutely hillarious. I've been waiting for this movie to come out on DVD and It's finally here. I can't wait to get my copy.
This was the worst movie I've ever seen8/7/2002
I'm an aficianado of bad movies, but this movie far surpasses bad. I will admit I saw it at the theatre, thus the venom of my review. I can't even begin to tell you how bad this movie is. If you saw the trailer for it, you've seen enough. During the movie I got up to leave 3 times, each time I sat back down thinking, "Well, it can't get any worse". It did. Save your time, save your money, and for heaven's sake don't encourage anyone to make a similar movie in the future by spending your money now. I only wish I had received this advice before seeing it. If you liked this movie, please seek psychiatric help.
