Reeve is back once more as the man from Krypton in this comedic Superman outing with Pryor fronting for villain Vaughn, out to defeat Clark Kent's alter ego. Some of this is funny, but mostly it's just laughable. (Where's Hackman when you need him)System Requirements:Run Time: 123 minsFormat: DVD MOVIE

"One of the most underrated movies of all time.  David Cornelius, eFilmCritic.com
"Fun bizarro scenes and the Clark/Superman fight rules.  Fred Topel, About.com
"Reeve continues his traditions of graceful flying moves, confident carriage, and twinkly warmth.  Peter Canavese, Groucho Reviews

Editor's Note
Superman matches wits with an evil mastermind and a computer genius who discovers the one substance that can harm the Man of Steel. Combining the known ingredients of Kryptonite with a guess at the unknown, the genius invents a new Kryptonite that doesn't kill Superman--it turns him evil. Meanwhile, a giant computer has been built for the mastermind that becomes self-aware and cannot be shut off. This entertaining combination of spectacular special effects and irrepressible comedy, once again directed by Richard Lester, features terrific madcap turns by Richard Pryor, Robert Vaughn, and Annette O'Toole and yet another majestic score by John Williams.

"...Pryor is excellent, as usual..." 06/08/1983

Chicago Sun-Times 7 of 10
"Superman III" is the kind of movie I feared the original "Superman" would be. It's a cinematic comic book, shallow, silly, filled with stunts and action, without much human interest. What's amazing is that the first two "Superman" movies avoided that description, creating a fantasy with a certain charm. They could have been manipulative special-effects movies, but they were a great deal more. With this third one, maybe they've finally run out of inspiration...Pryor can be a wicked, anarchic comic actor, and that presence would have been welcome here. Instead, like the rest of "Superman III," he's kind of innocuous. - Roger Ebert

Qwipster's Movie Reviews 6 of 10
Superman III is the first in the series without any trace of the guiding hands of director Richard Donner and acclaimed writer Mario Puzo, leaving the franchise completely in the hands of Richard Lester (A Hard Day's Night, Help!) and the Newmans, who set out to make the series into what the producers, the Salkinds, wanted to make them -- comedies...Although I did admire a couple of the plot developments, and a good performance by Reeve playing a not-so-good version of himself, the bad elements far exceed the good...Even die-hard Superman completists probably opt to keep this out of their video collection. Watch Superman and Superman II and consider the series over. - Vince Leo
