The members of the Swisher family were murdered in their beds with brutal, military precision. The state-of-the-art security was breached, and the killers used night vision equipment to find their way through the cozy, middle-class house. Clearly, Dallas is dealing with pros. It seems the only mistake they made was to overlook the nine-year-old girl cowering in the darkened kitchen. Unabridged. 10 CDs.
From the Publisher:
When the Swisher family of 2059 New York City is murdered, lieutenant Eve Dallas, her partner Peabody, and her husband Roarke investigate while protecting the family's lone survivor and witness, a terrified nine-year-old girl.
Annotation:
An imperiled child reminds Lieutenant Eve Dallas of her own painful upbringing in this entry in a long-running near-future romantic suspense series, written by Nora Roberts under the pen name J. D. Robb. Someone has murdered everyone in the Swisher household, except for nine-year-old Nixie, who sneaked out of bed for a drink in the middle of the night. Convinced that only she (and her husband Roark's high-tech security system) can keep Nixie safe, Eve shelters the frightened little girl in her own home. Eve's assessment of the situation proves to be dreadfully correct when others assigned to protect Nixie begin turning up dead.
Author Bio
Nora Roberts
Nora Roberts didn't become an immediate best-selling author, but once she sold her first novel, she never looked back. A mother of two small children at the time, Roberts began writing in 1979 with a number-two pencil and a spiral notebook. She wrote sporadically while her two sons were at school, a schedule she maintained long after they had grown up and gone to college. Two years and several manuscripts after her initial attempt, her first novel, "Irish Thoroughbred", appeared, the first of over 100 novels she would write in the following two decades. While having dabbled in many of the genre's forms, Roberts has found most of her success writing contemporary romances flavored with both suspense and adventure. The youngest of five children, Roberts grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland. In 1968, she married Ronald Aufdem-Brinke, the father of her two children, but divorced him in 1985, the same year she married her second husband, Bruce Wilder.
