| Joyce Collins, who is joined here by either Andy Simpkins or Octavio Bailey on bass and Ralph Penland or Claudio Slon on drums, had a rare opportunity to record as a leader on this Audiophile CD, but she made the most of it. Collins takes two vocals (including one on a rather depressing if insightful "The Job Application"), but the emphasis is mostly on her skillful piano playing. Joyce Collins is in top form on such numbers as "Thinking of You," "You and the Night and the Music," Ornette Coleman's "Turn Around," and McCoy Tyner's "Inception." Recommended. ~ Scott Yanow | |
