"He wants us to do what?" Caroline Tate and her brother, J.P., spoke in unison. (from the first line)
Forced to spend a summer with their father and his "new" family, Caroline, age eleven, and J.P., age thirteen, are given unpleasant responsibilities for which they are determined to get revenge.
From the Publisher:
Caroline Tate and her brother J.P. are unexpectedly sent to Des Moines to spend the summer with their father and find themselves responsible for a set of six-month-old twins and a baseball team.Caroline Tate and her brother J.P. are unexpectedly sent to Des Moines to spend the summer with their father and find themselves responsible for a set of six-month-old twins and a baseball team
Annotation:
Siblings Caroline and J. P. Tate usually don't get along, but when they discover that they will have to spend the summer with their remarried father and his new family, they vow to stick together to fight their common enemy--their new stepsiblings. Caroline and J. P. think they have come up with a lot of clever tricks, but it seems that whenever they try to put their plans into action, things have a way of backfiring or "switching around" on them.
Author Bio
Lois Lowry
Lois Lowry has tremendous range as a writer. She is well known for her humorous series of books about Anastasia Krupnik and her younger brother, Sam, but has also written about more serious topics, such as the Holocaust. As a result of her father's career as a U.S. Army dentist, Lois was born in Hawaii and attended junior high school in Japan. She attended Brown University but left school to get married and have children and, as a matter of fact, she had four before her 25th birthday. She eventually returned to school and graduated from the University of Maine. Her first book, A SUMMER TO DIE, was published in 1977. She won the Newbery Medal in 1990 for NUMBER THE STARS and again in 1994 for THE GIVER. A woman of many talents, Lowry's work as a photographer has appeared on the cover of some of her books. She also appeared on the television quiz show Jeopardy!
