good action movie!!

on 5/3/2012

"Tears of the sun" is a great movie. The story of the movie is very touchy. It is full of emotions and action. All aspects of the movie including cinematography, plot, acting, sound, etc were really good. Overall, this is a great action/war movie with a very good message.

Review Tears of the Sun has its share of effective moments. One of the most powerful occurs when passengers in a helicopter gaze down at the aftermath of a massacre. Another transpires when the soldiers enter a town that is currently being "cleansed" by the rebels. Most of the victims are beyond their help, but, in a primal act of rage, they exact revenge. Finally, there's the last, hopeless battle, which features full portions of tragedy, glory, and heroism. It's rousing, but there's also an underlying sense of poignancy...Bruce Willis is the ideal choice to portray Waters. This is a tight, controlled performance that establishes the character as more of an everyman than a superhero...Much as he did with Training Day, Fuqua takes a genre picture and, by diverting the story onto an unconventional path, generates a sense of urgency. Tears of the Sun is not a great movie, but it is satisfying, and represents an example of accomplished filmmaking. The film doesn't make the same kind of bold statement about war that is evident in productions like Platoon or Apocalypse Now. But, as might be presumed from the poetic title, there's more substance to be found here than one might initially expect from a Bruce Willis action flick.

Review "Tears of the Sun" is a film constructed out of rain, cinematography and the face of Bruce Willis. These materials are sufficient to build a film almost as good as if there had been a better screenplay. In a case like this, the editor often deserves the credit, for concealing what is not there with the power of what remains...This film, in this way, from beginning to end, might have really amounted to something. I intuit "input" from producers, studio executives, story consultants and the like, who found it their duty to dumb it down by cobbling together a conventional action climax. The last half hour of "Tears of the Sun," with its routine gun battles, explosions, machine-gun bursts, is made from off-the-shelf elements.

Review "Tears of the Sun" is Bruce Willis' "The Green Berets," a film that weighs the merits of the United States acting as the world's policeman and renders a judgment emphatically in the affirmative. Uninvolving due to stick-figure characters and off-putting in its images of technology-enhanced Yanks striding like benevolent giants among helpless Third World victims, this is one of those pictures that unavoidably becomes part of the zeitgeist due to its coincidental arrival at a precise moment in history when its themes play into current events...Despite the extreme situation and combustible possibilities, drama never comes to life, because it's far more about the problem than the characters. Not a line of exposition or psychological profiling is devoted to fleshing Waters out; he's just a guy who believes in doing his job...Lushly backdropped film was shot in Hawaii, and often looks it, although authenticity is strengthened by the large group of Africans (including many refugees from the Sudan and elsewhere) recruited for secondary parts and as extras. Fuqua's direction stresses the somber, a mood increased by the frequent overcast and rain, and lacks the electricity he brought to "Training Day." Hans Zimmer's generally low-key score incorporates African motifs to OK effect, and other behind-the-scenes contributions are pro.
