From the Publisher:
"This beguiling picture book, with a palette of eye-filling colors, appears to arise from the love binding a father and his little `big' girl who turn bedtime into playtime with a rhyming game."--Publishers Weekly. "A loving book, perfect for sharing with the youngest lapsitters."--Booklist.
Annotation:
As a young African-American girl prepares for bed, she and her loving father count backwards from 10, describing some of the things in her bedroom. Gently colorful illustrations accompany the rhyming text.In a charming ritual, a young girl and her loving father count backwards from 10 to 1 as she prepares to go to bed for the night. Starting with "10 small toes all washed and warm," the text concludes with "1 big girl all ready for bed." The final page, which depicts a small circular image of the girl sound asleep with her arms around her favorite stuffed bear, is a wordless tribute to zero. A calming and comforting look at the sometimes difficult end-of-the-day transition from playtime to bedtime, TEN, NINE, EIGHT is illustrated with color paintings and is a 1984 Caldecott Honor book.
