The journey begins when Professor Kaneda creates the ultimate soldier robot, Tetsujin, as a substitute for his son, Shotaro, whom he mistakenly believed died in a bomb raid on Tokyo during World War II. To prevent the army from using Testujin as a tool for destruction, the professor hides the robot on a remote island. Professor Kaneda, who thinks that he has lost his son during the heavy bombing of Tokyo during WWII, builds a robot, Tetsujin, to replace him. The robot is an ultimate fighting machine, and to keep it out of the wrong hands, Kaneda hides the robot on an island. Years later, the professor's protégé, Shikishima, makes 28 attempts to reanimate the robot before he is finally successful.
