Plot Summary
A tongue-in-cheek sequel to the 1975 splatter classic. Dennis Hopper stars as a Texas Ranger seeking revenge on the murderous, chainsaw-wielding clan who dismembered several members of his family in the first flick. Body parts and self-referential jokes fly, as the crazed lawman (he's almost as wacked as the villians he's stalking) heads toward the final, blood-soaked showdown.

Professional Reviews

"...A vision at once ghastly and hilarious....Director Tobe Hooper is back on the Texas turf he knows best and proves there are still a few thrills and chills left to be found.." 08/20/1986

Sight and Sound
"...Caroline Williams as Stretch is a winning heroine..." 11/01/2001 p.58-9

Los Angeles Times
"...This is one horror movie that delivers the goods -- and then some....It's done with such style and energy, such bursts of red-hot invention and anarchic, madly irreverent satire that sometimes it almost scorches you out of your seat..." 08/23/1986 p.C9

DVD Verdict 7 of 10
This film is gross. I usually don't just flatly blurt that out, but wow. This movie as so many entrails, human skin, and limbs flying around that you almost expect Sam the Butcher to walk onscreen and ask you to take a number. Not that I'm complaining (this is my kinda show). Although the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre was a great film, the one thing it lacked was a good, sloppy liver rolling around on the ground...Although a fun horror romp, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 does tend to lag in a few spots, and in others is just boring (most all of the scenes with Chop Top are pretty pointless. He's like a bad Xerox of Jim Carrey. I was not amused). - Patrick Naugle

Chicago Sun-Times 6 of 10
The first "Chainsaw" was gruesome and depraved, yes, but it also had an undeniable artistry, and it truly was frightening. "Part 2" has a smirk on its face, and would rather giggle than scream; at the end, we haven't seen a nightmare - we've just seen a lot of latex face masks and red dye...This movie goes flat-out from one end to the other, never spending any time on pacing, on timing, on the anticipation of horror. It doesn't even pause to establish the characters; Dennis Hopper has the most thankless task, playing a man who spends the first half of the movie looking distracted and vague, and the second half screaming during chainsaw duels. - Roger Ebert
