Utley vs. Pelz

by Troy on 12/4/2007

I rated this book at 3 stars, but you are likely to either rate it one star or five stars. It is well-written and full of information, but it's usefulness is going to depend completely on your style of putting. If you buy into the Dave Pelz method...moving the putter in a straight line, then this book will be less than useless to you. Utley refutes the Pelz method, and embraces the "screen door" methond in which you will rotate around your body to make contact. Order accordingly. I read the book, but I don't buy into it. I think Pelz is the way to go, so this was a waste of money for me. But it might not for you. One thing that I will say on top of that, is that Pelz's book on putting contains probaby ten times the amount of information that this one does. My guess is that you can divide golf people in half. One half wants to read all about putting...go with Pelz. The other half doesn't want to spend much time reading and just wants a basic method...go with Utley. Read More
