Author Bio
Allen Say
Having spent his childhood in Japan, Allen Say moved to the United States at the age of 16. He attended a number of art schools and universities and eventually began a career as a commercial illustrator. Say began writing and illustrating books for children in 1968, mainly retellings of Japanese folktales accompanied by pen-and-ink illustrations. His illustrations for Dianne Snyder's THE BOY OF THE THREE-YEAR NAP received a Caldecott Honor. Some of Say's work is based on incidents or memories of his own life including THE BICYCLE MAN and GRANDFATHER'S JOURNEY.
