Annotation:
Ex-NYPD detective Lincoln Rhyme is at the end of his rope. A terrible accident ended his career and left him a quadriplegic. He's on the verge of committing suicide when his old colleague, Lon Sellitto, tells him of a serial killer in New York who picks up his victims in a taxi, then takes them on a terrifying ride of torture and murder. The killer is in a battle of wits with the cops; he leaves just enough clues for them to find the next victim, if they're smart enough to decipher his code. Lon convinces Lincoln that he is the only one who can track down this murderer. With officer Amelia Sachs acting as his eyes and ears, Rhyme goes to work on this baffling case.
