You may know that Paul Bunyan was taller than a redwood tree and stronger than fifty grizzly bears--but you may NOT know that he also had a wife and two kids who helped him create some of the most striking natural wonders of North America! With warmth, humor, and dazzling landscapes, award-winning writer Audrey Wood and acclaimed illustrator David Shannon team up to present the tall-tale beginnings of Niagara Falls, the Rocky Mountains, Old Faithful, and more. The Bunyans are a family you will never forget!
A story about the amazing feats carried out by Paul Bunyan, his wife, and their two children--a boy named Little Jean and a girl named Teeny. Color illustrations accompany the text.
Author Bio
David Shannon
Author and illustrator David Shannon holds a B.F.A. from the Art Center College of Design. He has illustrated the works of such authors as Isaac Asimov, Robert D. San Souci, and Jane Yolen. One of Shannon's most popular works is one he both wrote and illustrated--the picture book NO, DAVID. This book was inspired by events from his own rambunctious childhood; in fact, he wrote what was to be the first draft of this book when he was still a child--the text consisting solely of the two words he knew how to spell at the time: "no" and "David."

Audrey Wood is best known for the books she has created in collaboration with her husband, Don Wood. By becoming an artist, Audrey Wood continued a family tradition of artistic expression that dates back to the 15th century. She attended the Arkansas Art Center and married Don Wood in 1969. The couple's first published collaboration, MOONFLUTE, appeared in 1980. Their 1985 work, KING BIDGOOD'S IN THE BATHTUB, was named a Caldecott Honor Book.

Kirkus Reviews
"Wood's text is short and direct, Shannon sprinkles his landscapes with tiny details that make his doll-like figures all the more towering, and together they make the best match since Anne Isaacs and Paul Zelinsky teamed up for 'Swamp Angel'." 09/01/1996

Los Angeles Times Book Review
"David Shannon's marvelous pictures capture both the scale of the story and its sublime silliness." - Michael Cart 11/10/1996

Washington Post Book World
"Wood's ebullient tall tale is perfectly complemented by David Shannon's robust paintings of the Bunyan family and their doings." - John Cech 12/08/1996
