Author Bio
Elizabeth Winthrop
Author Elizabeth Winthrop creates picture books, chapter books, and novels for young adults. Winthrop studied short story writing with author Grace Paley at a time when Paley was deeply involved in protesting against the United States's involvement in the Vietnam War; Paley was often jailed for her actions, and so many of Winthrop's classes were conducted while visiting her in prison. Winthrop also cites writer Jane Cooper as a mentor and major influence on her work. In 1971 Winthrop took a job as an editor at Harper and Row--that company published her first book, BUNK BEDS, in 1972.
