Annotation:
Set in the 1800s, a ship filled with amazing circus animals sinks near Maine, leaving the creatures to swim to a local island. Once there, they make themselves at home, much to the surprise of the townspeople. Luckily, the circus skills come in handy when a little girl is trapped in a burning shed, and everyone grows to love the tiger, zebra, giraffe, and other wonderful animals. When the mean owner shows up to claim his circus, everyone has mysteriously disappeared. With richly colored, humorous illustrations.

Praise

"Van Dusen's rhyming text takes inspiration from an 1836 shipwreck, but fanciful fun, not tragedy, awaits readers here...Splendid!" 08/15/2009
