Not as good as the first

on 5/17/2012

The darkness 2 is overall a good game not too much to complain about. However the first game was a lot better. The only real problem I have with this game is its way to liner, no subway to take you around town everything is level based. The story is good and defiantly worth a play through if you are a fan of the original. Lots of gore and blood to keep your attention, but I wish they never went with the cell shaded look. Read More

Quite a Surprise

on 5/30/2012

It's still early in the year, but this game may be my sleeper hit for 2012. I'm not saying it is the best fps to come out (it honestly is a 4 star game), but factoring in that it wasn't on my radar and thus coming in with low expectations, it really surprised me in how much fun it is. I played the first Darkness and couldn't get myself to finish it because it was a bit tedious and lacked cohesion so I found myself getting bored about half way through it. I think the developers realized this and basically streamlined the whole experience with Darkness 2 and made it a fast paced fps. The gimmick is that you control 2 serpents from your shoulders, one acts as melee and the other as retriever. They're always available to you when you're in the dark so shooting out light sources is a prerequisite to each new area. The boss battles are fun, but all too similar and lacked any scale. The weapons and upgrades are very fun to use and the controls are exceptional which is really what makes the game fun to play. I skipped all the cutscenes in the game because I rented it and wanted to be done with it quickly and even then, it took me about 6 hours to finish, which is my sweetspot for an action shooter. Someone wrote that it took abut 3 hours which is utter nonsense. I'll probably buy this once it hits bargain basement which shouldn't be too long from now and see what the story is about. Read More

Product Overview

The Darkness II is the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2007 release The Darkness. Inspired by the popular comic book series produced by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II is an intense first person shooter that delivers a twisted and gripping narrative of tragedy, modern crime drama, and supernatural horror. Players will be taken down the brutal and personal path of Jackie Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction known as the Darkness. The Darkness II stands out visually with its distinctive graphic noir style, and it is the only first person shooter to feature Quad-Wielding : the ability to simultaneously utilize four different weapons. It's been two years since Jackie Estacado used the Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend's murder. He's been unable to shake the memory of Jenny's death since bottling up his supernatural power and now the Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie's life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war and opens the door for the Darkness to reemerge. The botched attempt sets Jackie on a journey to hell and worse as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of the Darkness itself.
